Removing a water filter from the base grill of your Whirlpool brand refrigerator:

Removing and replacing a water filter - base grill location

Filters situated in the base grill (below the freezer compartment) of Whirlpool-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these two steps:

  1. Grasp the filter's end and make a one-quarter turn to the left.
  2. Pull the filter straight out.
To replace with a new filter, repeat these two steps in the opposite order, making sure to first remove the red cap from the filter. Proceed by pushing the filter straight into the slot, and then giving it a one quarter turn to the right.
Note: Replacing this type of filter is quick - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.

Why does the water filter in Whirlpool Gold refrigerator make a loud noise when I depress the water?

Remove the filter and reinsert with force..
Whirlpool Fridges have many styles, the more common
one to make noise is the style with the filter inside the
fresh food compartment hanging from the ceiling. This
is the Amana Bottom Freezer. If I'm correct: remove the
the filter and apply a thin film of vegetable oil on the rim
of the filter locking collar. This may allow the filter to turn
abit more, enabling water to flow faster..
There are 2 light blue pins the locking collar must push in
when turned. If this does not remedy replace the filter head
assembly.(Part the filter attaches to)

Leaking water

Did you inspect if the hole in the drain inside the fridge at the bottom is not blocked? Try to clean it with a swab. Sometimes this causes a "leakage" of condensed water.

I have a GD22DQ model side by side whirlpool gold refrigerator. we have looked through the manual and we cannot find were to put the water filter. the manual shows a dial at the bottom of the fridge but...

Hello Dollar1392,

I understand that you can not locate the water filter for your unit. If you have a water filter in your unit it will be located in one of two locations at the bottom of the unit in the grille or in the top of the refrigerator section on the right side in the rear corner. If the filter is not located at one of these locations then there is no filter on your unit. You will need to put an in-line filter in your water supply line.

down in the front grill at the bottom of the fridge you will see the filter and just the the left of it you will see a button. push the button in and that will pop the filter out a bit. pull it out and put the black cover that was on your old filter and put on your new one. then just push it in

Water Filter

most whirlpools have the filter located in the bottom kickplate, right below the freezer door. turn counter-clockwise and toward you to remove. if it has never been removed before, they are hard to get out the first time.

Moldy taste from Whirlpool side by side

The problem can still be in your lines, or in the dispenser itself. If you run hot water with a little bit of vinegar in the lines and let it sit for about 30 minutes and then flush the whole system this should take care of your problem
