I can think of some actions to play with (in case you have not already taken them, that is):
1) on your phone, go to 'Start > Settings > Connections tab > USB to PC' and toggle the 'Enable advanced network fucntionality' checkbox, i.e. it it is checked, uncheck it; otherwise, check it. Try to connect, then restore that setting to its original value and try again;
2) For security reasons, backup your PIM first (you could just copy file 'pim.vol' on the root of your phone to your SD card, to be copied back to the rooot of your device later). Then, delete the sync partnership, both on your phone and PC and try to set it up again;
