Hi there, I have a Sony HVR-A1E and have recently discovered that the touch screen is not healthy... All of of a sudden the P-Menu options are not going to their correct assigned options and are only providing me with very few options... One option which is not working is the Main Menu button which i was hoping to use to rectify the problem... There appear to be problems in both Camera mode and playback mode... The camera still records ok, but the lack of options is proving a hindrance... I have tried to reset button to no avail and the manual suggests i try re-calibrating but the problems with the buttons going to the wrong places doesn't allow me to access that option. Any advice or suggestions you can give would be welcome...

A self portrait from a camcorder? Just set it on a tripod, get yourself situated and let it run for a few minutes or less.
Then run it though a free program as simple as Picasa. If you don't have it a simple search is all you need to do.
Use the Stop button to freeze frame then use the upper left command 'File' to 'save a copy' and it saves any frame you want. I do this all the time with fast moving subjects (kids, critters, jets etc.) then find the perfect shot in a frame.
hi,
yes it has, go in camera settings
but if advise you, better not to use it because too much pixelizing with deep zooms (that's why it is desactivated from the beginig)
I am one of the lead technicians at VideoOneRepair.com toll free 888 283 2228. We are a repair shop that specializes in only Sony and Canon Prosumer camcorders. The problem that you are experiencing with your Sony HVR-A1U camcorder is a common problem with this model camcorder. The ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen to the main part of the camcorder goes faulty and needs to be replaced. Sony also recommends that when this cable is replaced you must also replace a modified part to prevent this from happening again. The estimate to replace both of these parts is $360.19 parts and labor. This also includes cleaning and servicing. We also offer a 6 month guarantee on the entire camcorder, not just what it was sent in for. The estimate and the return shipping are free even if you do not have the camcorder repaired. Please feel free to call, email or post any questions you have and I would be happy to respond.
