If the standby light is blinking 5 times then repeating, it is likely a problem in your picture tube or related circuitry. Other possibilities include the "Jungle" IC which takes care of the video, chroma and deflection processes and is a bear to replace. Either way, it could be an expensive repair.

Four blinks would normally indicate a yoke winding that was shorting intermittently, 5 blinks something on the "D" board in overvoltage condition and 6 blinks commonly Ic6501 is failing...
To have all of these blink codes happening could be signal derived, thereby not affecting dvd play. Could be smps related or possibly regulation. My first guess would be the "D" board...
Is there a cheap and quick fix, yes and no... This isn't one you'll be able test out or you wouldn't be asking the question. But a shop should be able to determine the problem and repair for less than half the cost of a new Tv in it's comparable class..
Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Sony KV-30HS420 turns off all by itself
This is less a solution than a work-around, but it does work for me, and it is free or low-cost.
I have had the same problem on the same Sony (model KV-30HS420),picture fading out to green then black, then turning off by itself, after which sometimes the light blinks 6 times, other times it blinks 7times. This started about four years after I bought it, which is not adecent lifetime for a CRT TV. It would happen anytime from 2 or 3 timesan hour to 30 to 40 times an hour. After getting absolutely nowherewith Sony, which was completely unresponsive and unhelpful, and which refusedto stand by their product or provide any useful information, I wasgetting ready to buy a new LCD TV, any brand but Sony (never buyanything from them again), when on a whim I decided to try one last stopgap solution.
I put a fan up against the side of the TV, blowing into the vents. Ithas been 3 days now, and not once has the fading and shutting downoccurred. So it looks like the fading out and shutting down wassomehow related to heat, and the ventilation seems to have solved it. I don't know why it should be a problem now, when it was not the first fewyears. It is also a mystery why Sony has not been able to figure thisout, since it is clear from online postings that many people have thisproblem with this model. Give this a try and see if it solves theproblem for you.
