There are two things that I can suggest.
1-Test your optical cables to make sure they a good on a known working source because they are very fragile and break very easily.
2-Try to eliminate the use of optical output from tv to receiver. There may be a problem from the HDMI to optical conversion at the tv. Instead, try running the audio directly from the source to the receiver, and let the tv deal with video input only.

Yes it is. What you need to do is connect your blu-ray video output either HDMI or Component directly to your tv, and the audio output of your blu-ray should be connected to the digital coaxial input on the samsung system

I have the same issue. I've opened up several tickets with Samsung tech support. I'm concluding that it's the BluRay rcvr has bad hdmi input & output circuitry. I'm returning mine to Best Buy where I purchased it for a replacement. Before I leave the store, I'm going to make sure that the replacement unit's hdmi inputs & outputs work @ the store.

2.Please take a separate cables for to listen audio and to watch video,
for audio connect cables from DVD Player to Home Theater you can listen the audio
for video please connect the HDMI video to TV Where You can enjoy both.

optical connection in tv is only input optical connection in receiver is only input will not work.need to connect rca jacks to tv's audio out jacks behind tv to any available input in receiver

If you are talking about a bran new system that you just bought, look on the packages, especially the TV becuse usually they bring a "quick connection" guide. If no, there are various kinds of connection that you can use. First definitvely the direct TV box must go to the VCR and from it you have an output to go to the antenna input of the TV. Now you can connect the audio output from the tv to one of the inputs in the home theater (can be "TV", or "VCR" or "aux") but, better results you have if connect the audio outputs fronm the direst TV to the home theater, this allows to hear music channel without using the tv just to see what channel is and you can turn it off the tv then. let me know which connction you prefer because there some that offers better video quality, as the S-Video wire, as well the optical output that comes from the direct tv box, which is the best for the sound providing the very good experience with the 5.1 surround experience.

That is because you didn't have the audio input connection right.
1. HDMI cable going from the Samsung tx72 output to Your Samsung TV HDMI input 2.
2. Non HD directv box Left and right audio output should be connected directly to the Samsung DVD receiver under Satellite input.Select"Satellite"for the sound from your Samsung tx72.You are good to go!

Nope RamaTheMan - you are incorrect! No way to get an actual surroundsound from your TV on this turd - this came straight from the Samsung FAQ -

"You cannot get surround sound from your television. On the other hand, if your television has audio output jacks you can connect your TV or Set Top Box to your Home Theater System and get stereo sound (that is, sound from the left and right speakers of your Home Theater System only).
To connect your TV or STB audio output jacks to your Home Theater System and get stereo sound, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your TV and Home Theater System.
2. Connect the Audio Out jacks on your TV to the External Audio Input jacks on the back of your Home Theater System. The External Audio Input connectors are typically labeled AUX IN. Note: There are usually two pairs of Audio Input jacks, AUX 1 and AUX 2. Each pair has a jack for the left audio input and the right audio input. Often, there are two Video AUX IN jacks as well. You can plug the audio cables into either audio AUX 1 or AUX 2. See the following diagram.
   

1. Turn on your TV and Home Theater System.
2. Press the Function Button on the front panel of your Home Theater System until the display on your Home Theater System shows AUX 1 or AUX 2.

For advanced installation, if you are using a High Def STB, you can connect an OPTICAL connection from the STB to the HTS. This is a specified cable that must be purchased separately.
In either instance, you must then set the HTS to its auxiliary input. (i.e AUX 1, AUX 2, DIGITAL IN) in order to get the sound from the HTS.
Note: If your television does not have Audio Out jacks, you may be able to get stereo sound by attaching the Audio Out jacks on your VCR to either the AUX 1 or AUX 2 audio inputs on your Home Theater System. If you attach your VCR to AUX 1 or AUX 2, you will have to tune your television to channel 3 or 4, and then tune to the station you want to watch on your VCR."

Run a regular RCA type audio cable from your TV audio out to your Home Theatre audio in. That is what I have done recently with my Samsung LCD and Home Theater. You then have to put your Home Theater on Aux 1 or Aux 2 to get the sound from TV. Ensure your TV's volume is off.
