My Toshiba portable dvd player says no Valid Disc

If the units under warranty you may want to contact Toshiba as it sounds your unit is in need of a replacement laser assembly.
If the unit isnt under warranty, Toshiba should be able to supply the parts you need and as long as you mark every thing that you remove, as to know where it goes when re-assembling the unit. The lasers arent difficult to replace. Good luck.

You would have to change the firmware. Does this have a serial port on it or any other port that can be connected to the computer?

(a)press SETUP button
(b)press right arrow key 3 times,
(the preference page will show up)
(c)press 9653
(d)Use the up and down key to select Region
(Select Region 0 for all regions)
(e)press SETUP again to save choices and exit

Your Audiovox D1917 is now region free!
