Archos 405 Digital Media Player Logo
Anonymous Posted on Dec 04, 2010

Hi. My Archos 405 2G won't install firmware. I place the file in the root, it is detected, the progression screen is displayed, but then fails giving a Code 207. Tried formatting but just the same. The 'System' folder has a file mtplib_dirty that wont delete. Deleted folder and created new one, but file returned. Can't think what else to try. Would be grateful for any help. Thanks.

It has been infected with a virus. Get an anti virus loaded or get it flushed with one. That will remove it & allow you full access.

How do i update my Archos 504?

How to install firmware ..?(update)

Step 1. Download the firmware to your computer-->click HERE to download the update file When you download the update file, your browser may warn you that the file 'could be harmful'. This is normal because browsers are not familiar with files that have a .AOS extension and suspect that they could be malicious. These files are not harmful to your computer.

Step 2. Turn on your ARCHOS device and connect it to your computer with the USB cable

Step 3. On the ARCHOS, choose to connect and wait a few seconds for your device to be detected by the computer

Step 4. Copy and paste the downloaded firmware (.AOS file) to the ARCHOS device.
  • Case 1: logo_firm_hdd.jpg Your ARCHOS is detected by your computer as a Hard Drive (E: for example) in Windows® Explorer. Paste the update file directly onto the ARCHOS hard drive icon.
  • Case 2: logo_firm_g4.jpg Your ARCHOS device is detected as a 'Mobile Device' in Windows® Explorer (not as a hard drive) and you see just two folders Data and Media when you open it. Paste the update file into the folder called Data.
  • Case 3: logo_firm_g4.jpg Your ARCHOS device is detected as a 'Mobile Device' in Windows® Explorer (not as a hard drive) and you see Internal Hard Drive when you open it. Open this Internal Hard Drive icon and you will see the various ARCHOS folders inside (Video, Music, etc.). Paste the update file into this area but be careful not to paste it into any of the folders there.
Step 5. Disconnect the Device
Unplug the USB cable (for 'Mobile Device' connections) or use the "safe disconnect" green arrow icon (for Hard drive connection) in the system tray before unplugging the USB cable.

Step 6. On your ARCHOS device, click on "Update Firmware"
Click on the "tab" button to show the settings screen. Select the "System" icon and then click on the "Update Firmware" button. For the ARCHOS 104, 202, & 204, go to the settings and open the icon "System" where you can find the Update Firmware button.

2. Connect 605 to PC using USB wire and find the Driver named "a605" or similar words
3. Copy a firmware to the ROOT directory on the driver mentioned above
4. Keep the USB connected and select "OK" on 605
5. Re-calibrate the screen under Display menu on 605.

Hope Everything is ok.

Just a little FYI: hotlyq's solution works just fine, but the firmware file needs to be name exactly as it is downloaded. I downloaded both OSv2.1.0.4 and OSv2.0.1.0 firmwares to the same folder on my PC. Obviously enough I had to give them different names on the disk, I tried both and neither worked. It turns out the recovery system will not use any firmware unless it is named "firmware_a605f.aos". So if you're like me, copy the firmware over to the root of the USB-drive and then rename to firmware_a605f.aos.

Archos 605 WiFi Digital Media Player Problem: Archos 605 Recovery code 108

This is generally due to failed firmware updates, etc....here is something to try that has worked for some others:
1. connect the archos to the PC
2. click on repair
3. click on done and wait for a few seconds and you will see the archos as a drive in your windows (be patiant it takes some time)
4. once you see the drive, open it and make sure the System folder is empty, if not delete the file that exists there.
5. download firmware from archos website and put the firmware update file directly on the root of the archos drive
6. click repair again on the archos and done.
I've been told this does not always work on the first attempt, so give it a couple of tries if the first attempt fails.

Archos 605 Recovery code 108

In order to fix this issue, we are going to need to force the unit into a
recovery application. In order to do this please make sure that the unit is
completely shut off. When the unit is off, you are going to want to press and
hold the TV/LCD button and the power button at the same time until a recovery
code 101 pops onto the screen. As soon as you see this, let the buttons go.
Once you got this screen up, you are going to want to repair the operating
system by arrowing down and clicking repair. After this is done it is going
to ask you to connect your device to the computer and install an update file.
In order to do this, you are going to want to go to www.archos.com and go to
downloads. You are going to want to download the firmware for your unit.
After the firmware is saved to your desktop, plug the unit into the computer
and open up "My computer" and you should see the Archos in the list
of drives.
Your going to want to copy the firmware onto the root directory and not in
any file folders. Once the firmware is on the Root directory, go ahead and
unplug the unit from the computer. It should still say Please plug your
device into the computer and install an update file. Click OK. After this is
done, it is going to tell you to please connect DC or USB in to continue with
the update. Go ahead and let the unit install and reboot. After this is
done, you should be able to use the unit properly. If the unit still does not
work properly, we are going to have to create an RMA for the Archos. If you
need anything else, Please feel free to contact us via Email or at
877.300.8879.
