I bought the 6-30089 Pennsylvania Flyer Train Set last year. It's been in storage in the original box in a cool, dry place since last Christmas. I put it together, but it will not run. There is power to the locomotive--headlight comes on--but it will not move. Should the wheels spin freely on their own because they don't? I assume it needs voltage to move the wheels. Is this a simply a matter of needing to lubricate the parts? I'm a new Lionel train enthusiast and I'm not off to a good start. Please let me know why the locomotive won't run.

Hope you got the set working. If not, look underneath the locomotive near the rear (under the "cabin"). There are two switches, one on either side. One says "Smoke", the other says "Reverse". If the "Reverse" switch was set to "Off" when the locomotive was in Neutral, it will stay in neutral even when the power is cycled or the "Direction" button is pressed on the power supply. Even in Neutral, all the lights will work and I believe the smoke element will heat up but won't puff. Whatever setting the "Reverse" switch is on, try changing it to se if that works. Hope this helps...

When my soon put his pennsylvania flyer train set he unhook the wiring to the fasttrack itself. How to we put in back on the fasttrack?

turn the terminal track(where the wires were connected) over,
you should see 2 screws where the wires were attached.
loosen the center rail screw, strip the wire with the red end back - 1/2 inch on the end that was attached to the screw, place wire around the screw & tighten. repeat with the other wire attaching it
to the screw on the outside rail where it was previously attached.
reconnect the terminal track to the rest, connect to your transformer
and play with your train.

Make sure that the last track before the bumper is marked to be at the end of the trck - it will be marked on the bottom of the track and there will not be electrical connectors at one end of the track.

I bought a new brighton toy christmas train set at a garage sale. the jert told me it worked. the music will play and the engine head light comes on but the engine will not run. are there replacement...

If says 187 on the box, check out this solution:
This train set is very particular and getting it to work each Christmas is a family tradition in frustration. First you must make sure that all the pieces of track are connected properly and that the track is perfectly symmetrical and flat. We double-check the battery positions every year and find one in wrong. There are + and - signs, but they're hard to see; use a flashlight. There is a black toggle switch below and behind the red stack that toggles forward (to make the train go forward) and backwards (reverse); straight out perpendicular to the train is the "stop" position. Also, you have to start at a stop/switch station. One other note: behind the red stack, there is a smaller black stack. If you turn this, you can make smoke come out of the stack. I think I remember someone suggesting a drop of cooking oil. Hope this helps!!! Hope you get it set up for Christmas!!!
