Yes. According to the manual, the DSC-W1/W12 takes memory sticks up to 1GB in size.

I dropped my Sony DSC-W1/W12 camera. The battery door broke and will no longer close. The camera works fine with a little duct tape. Do they make a new battery cover to replace? Thank you all Marcia

Yes, you can get new battery holder that comes with cover, part number is as follows:

DSC-W1 Camera will take apart to replace battery compartment.
Hope these info will help you.

The Sony DSC-F717 will only take upto a 256MB Memory Stick - larger size Memory Sticks will give the C: 13:01 error. Use a correct memory stick and your camera should be fine. Regards, Andrew

Lost Disc for cyber-shot DSC-W1/W12 Serial No1689698 can i download program

You don't need any special software.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Lens will not retract

I have exactly the same problem and I found out that new batteries solve the problem. I also think the battery charger bundled with the W12 version is not very good. You might try (I haven't yet!) a new charger which handles new types of batteries (Ni-MH).

The zoom lens does not retract on dsc-w1/w12

I've had the same problem on rare occasion. Usually, I just wait a few seconds, then turn the camera on... wait a few more secs, turn off... repeat as necessary. When all that doesn't work, I've replaced with new batteries & the problem is solved.

W1 underwater

There is a generic "all-in-one" housing by Equinox that will hold the W1. Very basic controls, altho if you pay more you can get a custom. Haven't heard anyone's reviews on the housing tho. see here, http://www.oceanbrite.com/moreinfo.php?id=498

memory stick pro comes in 4gb, 2gb, 1gb, 512mb, and 256mb sizes. sizes up to 1gb (i.e. 256mb, 512mb, and 1gb) are what the book is referring to.

Sony DSC-W12 Camera

The W12 must be a European version of the W1 or W5 camera. The W12 is not available in the USA. It sounds like you have the "digital zoom" feature active. Digital zoom lowers the quality of the photo. It (in effect) reduces the megapixels applied to an area of a photo. Digital zoom should not be used if you want quality results.
