No sound on NON HD channels

New TV with HDMI cable into new comcast dvr box. Great picture. Great sound on HD channels only! No sound on non-hd channels. Tried component cables instead. Still no non-hd sound. Geek squad can't figure out. Please advise!

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.

Check menu on tv and see if the audio input has any other settings. May have different options for sound processing.

I connected my HDMI cable to my television and have comcast for my provider. I get the HD Channels beautifully but when I go to a regular non HD channel, I get no sound at all, only the picture. How am...

You will need to used a red and white cable that will connect to the (audio out) on the comcast box and then to your (in audio) on your tv.

Thanks

I have a Philips DVDR 3575H. using Comcast's

Try this set up-

Use an RCA audio/video cable for this set up (Yellow/Red/White).

Connect from the Video out (Yellow) connection on the back of the cable box to the Video in on the back of the DVR.

Connect the audio (Red/White) cables from audio out connection on the back of the cable box to the "Audio in" on the back of the DVR.

This should still get you a decent picture but not a true HD picture for your recordings.

When you set the timer to record set it to record either E1 or E2 depending on which input you connected the cable box to and ensure that the cable box is tuned to the channel you wish to record.

*** NOTE: If you keep the HDMI cable connected as you have for the cable box and watch normal TV through the HDMI input on the TV you will get HD programming for your general viewing but still have the option to record with the DVR at a lower quality. ***

Good Luck and please rate this solution....

White/Grey screen with non-HD channels

I removed the HDMI cable and connected with component video and rca audio. No more white screen.

Picture quality looks good. I don't know if it's as good as HDMI, but then I don't need to reboot the TV three times to get to teh on-demand menu... Grrrrr....

I am trying to contact Toshiba on this as well. I have seen several reports of this problem on the web.

Hdtv picture freeze

I also have a Brand new Sony Bravia 52" LCD with Comcast Cable (motorola box). When switching between HD Channels sometimes the left side of the screen shows a smushed version of the new channel, and the right side is a frozen picture of the previous channel. I correct this by switching to a non HD channel and back. Cable or TV problem I wonder?

No Non-Hd sound

In a nutshell, there is no solution to this problem. The new Insignia TVs have a compatibilty issue with certain HDMI connections. The best thing is to return the TV and purchase another brand. I bought the LG w/built-in DVD and everything works great.

Sony kdl-40s2000

Probably need a software upgrade. Contact Sony for that information. This would be a common fix in most sistuations when using HDMI.
