Take the memory card out of the camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

SOURCE: I just bought a new

The P880 works with MMC and SD cards. Your new 4GB card is an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. The camera is limited to working with cards 2GB and smaller.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your honest advice Just a pity that the supplier cannot advice customers of which camera the card is compatable with.I am impressed, Thanks"

L can not copy anything to SD card it says remove writer protection

Take your memory card out of the camera and switch the position of the "lock" tab. One position is for "locked" (i.e., "Write Protected") and the other position will allow the card to be written to (unlocked). Some cameras have image protection built into the on-camera software and you may need to configure this there.

Do I have to use a Olympus memory card or can I use a SanDisk SD card

You may use any brand xD Picture Card. The key is that it be an "xD" card, not the far more common "SD" card.

Computer keep saying the disc has write protection , therefore it cannot copy songs to the disc

Check on the left side of the card. Is there a little slider lock? Be sure that the card isn't locked. This is like the old 3.5" floppy "Write Protection".

What do you do if your camera says memory card is write protected

Copy all the files from it onto your computer, just to make a "backup".

Turn the camera off, and remove the memory-card.
Look for a "lock" on it, and slide the lock from the "protected" to the "unprotected" position.

I put a sandisk pro duo memory card into my camera but it says it cannot format because the memory stick is protected; how do i fix this problem so i can use it with my camera?

There is a small latch on the left side of the memory disk jacket where you will find Lock written, If you pull it to the unlock position then the write protection on the card will be removed. Please do that and use the card.

Memory card locked

On your SD card, there is a small tab near the top (similar to floppy a disks), just switch that the other way it should fix that lock error.
