Most Compaq's come with what is known as "reimaging" or the OS already installed on a partitioned part of your harddrive (which is locked) unless you go in and have your computer do a System Recovery to factory settings...
Know that if this is your only option, then you will loose everything you have on your computer up until you got the error message...
Ok, first things first..
What were you doing before you got this error?
Are you able to boot to your start up screen and get to System Restore? If not and all else is lost, then follow the following instructions
1. Restart the computer "Press key, it's up above your 0 for recovery" message is displayed
on the screen. Then select Recovery Manager.
Then your Recovery Manager will come up
2. Choose Advanced Options.
3. Choose System recovery, and then click Next.
It will instruct you to reset your computer to Factory Settings...all you need to do is follow the Recovery Manager Wizard options and click next and next and so on... let me know if this works....
