Without getting all technical, look for the condenser coil and be sure it is clean. Some are under the refrigerator and can be accessed by removing a "kick plate." Some are under and in the back and can be accessed by removing a cover with a few screws. Some units have a small fan that moves air over the condenser coil. Look for it and see if it is running. And then there are some that have coils that run up the rear of the unit and when it is pushed back against the wall, the air can not circulate and can cause this issue. This is the simple first step to do before getting a service tech involved.

If this is a frost free model the fan could be bad. If not frost free it is probably low on freon. I don't recomment fixing this as you can never really trust the freezer again. Most of the time the leak can't be found and adding freon is only a temp solution.

i dont think so i would look at the compressor kicking out on thermal overload or a faulty thermostat thermostats have two settings cut in cut out your cut in could be bad and not turning the compressor on till the temp reaches melting temps now if your hearing a click buzz then you need to look at the compressor and make sure the compressor fan is running but its not a defrost promblem

check your door seal, by closing the door on a strip of newspaper all round the seal. this fault is usually air getting inside the freezer, it rises to the top making thick ice or snow.

Also get yourself a stand alone fridge and freezer thermometer - leave it in for an hour -that will establish what the temperature really is which will help in diagnosing the cause.
Also trying unplugging it for 15 minutes so the display board loses power - then plug it back in - sometimes that will reset it.

I am not an expert, but if the defrost heater is not working, then maybe when it was unpluged the coils didn't completly unthaw. If not, the freezer still will not cool properly.
Thank you for your inquiry, friend!
Normally it is recommended to set your Frigidaire upright freezer to zero degrees. It is your option to make it cooler if you choose too. I hope this information has been helpful. -Matt
