I have a Roland GK-3 Pickup, the volume dial is working fine on the controller unit, but no notes will play. I haven't used the unit in a while and its never seen excessive use. Is there any way the actual hexaphonic pickup could just cease to work? Or is this more likely a setup problem...... GK- 3 -> Axon AX50 -> Macbook Pro running Logic Studio 8. Any Ideas?

I know nothing about music, and I don't play piano, but I have played with these when they first came out. I was manager of a public hall and a shop brought a load of them for demonstration. It sounds like an Effects setting and I know that is one called 'Leslie', which if I remember correctly is the effect of a speaker spinning in a speaker enclosure.

A number if things can be wrong with it, from the audil preamp to the the audio amplifier. Even as simple as a bad volume control. Does the actual noise change patterns when you move the volume?

You must connect a short jack cable between the GK2 or GK3 and you normal guitar jack out. Secondly, the switch on the GK should be in the middle, that will give synth & dry guitar simultaneously.

First plug a set of headphones into the Left audio out and see if you get any sound from there... NOTE: it will only be in the left headset and this is normal. Turn up volume control... note the level will be low as this is a line output, not headset. This is a test to see if there is audio.

First clean the controlls, then check for any loose components

If you have two MIDI sources that you send on the same MIDI or to the same MIDI sound generator you have to use a "MIDI MERGER" or you will get notes stuck on. A MIDI merger assembles complete messages before sending them to their destination. Without it, the messages are mixed which makes them garbled.

This probably is not a DIY repair... The audio comes out of the CODEC and is buffered by Op Amp used as filters and then goes through the volume controls, After that it goes to the jack board with buffer OP amps. First thoughts might be a damaged volume control, however, the "B" outputs don't go through volume controls...

About the only thing I would think you could do is to CAREFULLY open the unit and look for a loose cable involved with sending the audio to the volume control panel and then the cable that takes the audio to the jack board...

More than that you would probably need to take it to a shop equiped to troubleshoot.

I think you are having problems with your GK-3 pickup. Make sure your string that you are having problems with is the optimal height etc. The adjustment for the GR-20 is in the manual at this link:http://www.roland.co.uk/assets/media/pdf/GR_20_Q_A.pdf Make sure your pickup is installed correctly and adjusted properly first. I didn't walk you through the adjustment because every installation for every guitar is different. Hope this helps.

Please note that ROLAND equipment USUALLY uses Normally closed (electrically) damper pedals for their equipment. Most other brands use normally open ones. If you are using a non-Roland pedal, that is likely the problem.

SOME PEDALS require opening and changing a wire (involves soldering) to match the unit you are plugging into. A very few have a switch on them to allow changing polarity.

A few synths, like the Yamaha Tyros have a built in setup screen where one can select the polarity of the attached pedals.

I have the same problem. Only the 1st, 3rd and 5th strings respond. This is not a sensitivity adjustment. The unit does not see the strings. I called Roland and was able to purchase just the pickup itself rather that the entire GK-3. The pickup was about $35 but took 4 weeks to arrive. When it finally got here I was excited. It was not difficult to remove the old and replace it with the new. I plugged it in. NOTHING CHANGED! I believe and hope it ti the 13-pin cable. I have read where these cables are just poorly made and many users have spent a considerable sum on the cable, most recommending having one in reserve always as they are sure to go out.
