After contacting Olympus in hamburg, the problem was solved and installation of the new software (version 2.06) was possible.
There is - however - a bug when you choose the automatic update system. Don not do that and the program is running OK!
The advises from Olympus - Hamburg:
1. Download MSXML.msi from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=3144b72b-b4f2-46da-b4b6-c5d7485f2b42&displaylang=en.
2. Run msxml.msi and choose Remove to uininstall msxml4.
3. Run msxml.msi a second time and install msxml4.
restart your PC and install the program

To solve this, we introduce the following method.
<A>
=======================================================================
1) Stop all resident software.
2) Insert CD-ROM to the PC. If the setup window appears automatically, please close it.
3) Create a new folder on desk top.
4) Copy all files/folders in the CD-ROM and paste them to the folder made on desk top.
*Not install from the CD-ROM directly. Please once make copy to the folder.
5) Double-click "setup.exe" in the folder to start installation.

And if still not solved, it might be a problem of CD-ROM. Could you arrange to send another new disc of Olympus Master 2?
It can be downloaded from, https://emporium.olympus.com/studioMaster2/OlympusMaster.aspx

If still not solved after <A> and <B>, it should be caused by Windows Installer Package. It is a function supported by OS, In that case, you would have to call for PC Manufacturer or Microsoft.
Have had the same problem and have found a work around solution: found this on another forum dpreviews.com. install trial software offered by Olympus Studio trial version. Then install Master 2 software.
I used a Registry cleaner before I attempted the install of the Master 2 software.

Hi Olympus users,
I'm from the states and when I do the www.olympus.com thing I usually click the Americas and North America. I usually check for updates to the Olympus Master to see what versions are available online. I found out they usually recommend to update the software within the software or request to download. I always request, but this will only apply for American versions. Then i notice my XD art/pano functions are not compatible. So i did some research and found out the European and Asian Olympus sites had a different navigation and support setup than the American web site. Wow, I was able to get the latest Olympus Master Installer downloaded and an updated XP art/pano installer as well.
P.S. I also found out that the UK and Canada have photo enthusiast stuff like magazines... who knew?

I had this problem today when installing Olympus Studio 2. I turned my Spyware and Virus Protection off, and the program installed correctly.

Usually answered in minutes!
contacted olympus about this and tried various solutions they suggested. All of them failed,I have now given up on it.
Same problem, failed per 00001603
Same Problem, progress bar just stops moving and then after a while I get the error message.
Same problem. Contacted Olympus and advise to remove files in regedit. Makes no difference but very annoying. Disc works OK on my work computer and have tried downloading the latest version same problem.
Same problem!
Originaly te program Olympus Master 2 works well, but was allways a little slow ( I am running Windows XP home edition)
Last week I get a runtime error and de program does not work anymore.
I tryed to de-install it, but this failed. ( message: installation incomplete ), so it was not possible to remove te program.
After phoning to Olympus I get the same information, cleaning registery, delete the total olympus directory and try the new version.
Also this does not work. De-installation is stil not possible and installation of the new version gives te famous 00001603 message....
I also tryed to run this progam on a Vista system and there its looks OK..
I am very dissatisfied about the way the "helpdesk" of Olympus this problem treaded. Non professional an without total knowledge of te inn's and out's of this software program.
I need this program to work with my E-410 camera and te handle the RAW files.
If someone has a solution, please help!!
