I have a Kingston Data Traveler 8GB USB Flash Drive which I bought 4weeks ago. Whenever I plug it in one of my usb ports, i get a message which says "USB Device Not Recognized. One of the USB Devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it." I tried plugging in the device in other computers but still i get the same message. The OS of the computers I've tried are Windows 7.

The thumb drive might have some fault.
Plug it in other OS mainly windows XP and Linux.
If still same problem persists after tried in Linux, problem is with pen drive.
You can ask for a replacement from the dealer as it has guarantee for 5years.

What is the password for the new kingston USB DT109?

It is true that locking mobile storage devices, such as USB drives, with Imation Lock is an excellent way to protect your data.

However, using Imation Lock with a Kingston USB drive can create problems.

Learn how to unlock your Kingston USB drive so you can use it once again.

Ensure that your Kingston USB drive has been removed from your computer's USB port.

Start the Imation Lock software by double clicking the Imation Lock.

Plug in the Kingston USB into a USB port immediately after the "Please Insert the Device or Run This Utility as Privileged User" message appears.

Access your Kingston USB drive by clicking Start > Computer.

Double click on the device.

Start the Imation Lock software again by double clicking the Imation Lock.

Disable the password protection by clicking the open lock icon.

or

If you have password protected a USB drive or partition on your computer and have since forgotten the password, you will need to completely erase the drive.

Erasing and reformatting the drive will remove any password protection, software and data on the drive preventing you from accessing the drive.

The process is simple using Window's Disk Management utility.

Log into the computer as the administrator.

Open the Windows Start menu, select "Run," type "Compmgmt.msc" and click "OK." In Windows Vista and Windows 7, simply type the command into the "Search" field.

Select "Disk Management."

Locate the password-protected drive.

Right-click it and select "Delete." Confirm the action.

The drive will be erased and become unallocated free space.

Hope this helps.

Unable to save delete or format datatraveler 8GB key. It also seem to have a virus which I have so far not been able to clean. Plese I need your help.

Hello,

exactly the same thing has happened to be before, but I was able to solve the problem using Avira Anti-virus.

Here is what you have to do to get your flash drive working again;

Install Avira Anti virus on on your computer. If you don't have Avira anti-virus software, go to www.avira.com, on the Avira home page, you will see Free download. Click on the free download. Allow the software download on your computer. Go to the location where the software was download and click on the software to have it installed on your computer.

After the Avira nti-virus has been successfully or completely installed on your computer, insert the data-traveler 8GB into the USB port of your computer.

The moment the data-traveler 8GB is inserted, the Anti virus will pop out with a dialogue box alerting you about virus detected on the data-traveler 8GB.

Select 'Delete...", and the box might pop out over and over. Just keep selecting delete until the whole virus is deleted from the data-traveler 8GB and your flash will be okay.

You can format the data-traveler 8GB thereafter or right click on the data-traveler 8GB from 'My computer' and scan the drive with Avira anti virus.

This should fix the problem you are facing presently. But if it does not solve the problem, please let me know so that I can give the next step to taking.

Your sincerely.

I have a kingston data traveler 2gb DTI. i was copying movie files to my data traveler and it removed the volume label and i am not able to change it back. now I am not able to access any files. it does...

Files on a flash drive can be corrupted if it is not removed from the USB port properly.
Before removing the flash drive click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon and then click on the flash drive you want to remove and then remove the flash drive when the computer message says it is Safe to remove.
To restore the flash drive you need to format the flash drive, but you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.

Kingston USB key Data Traveler 8GB doesn't work well when more than 512 MB are copied in it. Same problem with different computers (with Windows XP SP2 or SP3). Same problem when formatted with FAT32 or...

If you have not tried this already, go to control panel, click on administrative tools, then double click computer management. In the left pane under computer management, click on disk management.
Make sure your Kingston data disk is plugged in to your usb port. In the right pane you should see your flash disk represented by a white bar with blue line on top. Right-click on the white bar and select "delete partition" Once the partition is deleted, right-click the bar once again and select create partition. Once you have created this partition, you should have the use of the maximum capacity of the flash drive.
