First, you'll need to hook the camera up to the pc via usb cable.
Second, you'll need to make a directory on your hard drive as a target for the files you are importing.
Third, you'll need to make sure that the video that you download is playable on your pc, if not playable then you will need to transcode it to an acceptable format.
Fourth, make sure you have all required codecs so that compatability will bee as good as possible.
That should take care of it.
SOURCE: Can't transfer video from cam to pc
You can't capture the video with a USB cable. The USB cable and software that came with the camcorder are only used to transfer still images.
To transfer video you'll need a DV cable (also known as a Firewire cable) and some additional software. I use Scenalyzer Live. It's not free, but you can download a demo copy to see if you like it before you buy it. Here's a link to the Scenalyzer website:
http://scenalyzer.com/
If you have the JVC manual you should read page 41. If you don't have the manual you can download it here:
http://www.devicemanuals.com/guide/Digital%20Camcorder/JVC/JVC-Compact-VHS-w-LCD-Screen-Camcorder-GR-D370AS-User's-TWpJME56VT.html
The download link is about half way down the left side. It's a little difficult to find, but it's there.
Lastly, all this assumes that your computer has a Firewirre port. Most new computers will have one, but if you do not you'll need to buy and install a Firewire PCI card. Let us know if you need more help.

YES!!! I GOT IT!!! Ok so the comp doesn't recognize the damn camera. I went around the problem!!! OOO so excited!!! Ok sooo simple, you'll slap yourself! Ok. First plug in your USB cord to the comp and you'll see the options play on pc, pc connection, etc. Select CREATE DVD! (You won't be able to see or select any of the files you are going to import, oh well.) You should see the regular screen pop up that says import, create, view pictures. Click IMPORT PICTURES. It will automatically import both pictures and video. For file name write something you can easily locate, ex: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA (you can change it later) Then open MOVIE MAKER. Click on IMPORT on the upper left hand corner and you'll see their demo video listed. Click on picture and video files on the bottom right hand corner and select ALL FILES. You should see what was downloaded!!! YAY!! I haven't burn a DVD yet but the files are there and the program should do it from there!

Save yourself a lot of frustration. If you have this camera change the extension of the files from .mod to .mpg and it will be compatible with a lot more video editing programs.

Most of the time the camera has to be powered off then on again for the computer to pick it up. you can also try connecting it to a capture card and saving the files that way.
Also make sure there is no ! on the device itself and make sure all drivers are installed.
