I got a remote control with my star choice satellite dish 4 years ago. It suddenly stopped working for the satellite receiver? I only have the receiver and a dvd player and the tv so its not like ive got a ton of components or anything lol Receiver plugs directly into the tv. Remote still works to turn on the tv and dvd player and functions perfect otherwise. I've tried to reprogram it the way I would for a tv or other component but it doesn't work, wont reprogram. It just reprograms the TV and dvd player. Shouldn't it stay paired with the receiver? Weird. Anyway...what can I do? Can't change the channels! LOL luckily i have another remote from another receiver but its annoying to have 1 remote in the house! thanks!

Always better to buy the original remote.

If neither the DISH Network remote or the TV remote is working for you most likely your remote sensor is going bad. If you'd like to try readdressing the remote follow the steps and procedures below. Codes: 500, 837, 125, 808, 798, 640, 796, 783, 795, 797, 865, 846, 842, 563, 501, 810, 841, 781, 807, 838, 690, 758, 843, 845, 591, 839, 806, 840, 844
To program the remote:
1.) Hold the clear "TV" mode button for four seconds or until all four buttons at the top of the remote are lit.
2.) Press one of the three digit codes listed above followed by pound (#)
3.) Check for functionality by trying the volume power and mute.
Be sure to press the "SAT" button to return to satellite mode if the code works.

open your remote and look if you dont have a bad soldering some where use a good magnifier
if all look good its could be the ir led blow or the
xtal frequency controler.it as to be some ting like that
hope that will help ;sometime the batterry look full or test over 1.5 but theres not good replaced before to be shure..

To control a Dish Network PVR/Satellite, it needs to be set to respond to the default Remote Address (1).

To reset your Dish Network PVR/Satellite to the default Remote Address:

1. Press SYSTEM INFO on the receiver's front panel. The System Information screen displays on the nearby TV and shows the Remote Address.
2. Using the original Dish Network remote, press and hold SAT on your remote control for about three seconds, until all of the mode buttons light up, and then release SAT.
3. Using the NUMBER PAD, press the 1 button
4. Press POUND (#). If you entered the address correctly, SAT will flash three times.
5. Press RECORD. Make sure the Remote Address you see on the System Information screen is 1.
6. Press the SELECT button on the front panel to close the System Information screen.
7. Your Harmony remote should now control your Dish Network PVR/Satellite box

NOTE: Dish Network PVR/Satellite receivers sometimes have two tuners, allowing them to be used in more than one room on different TVs. Harmony remotes can only control a Dish Network receiver's main tuner while still in the same room with direct line of sight to the device.


What other issues are you having with the remote?

The problem for me was the TV giving off IR signals that interfered with DISH's poorly designed remote. When the TV's room ambient light sensor was turned on and it became dusk outside the DISH remote would stop working. Moving the receiver away from the TV helps but the problem is not eliminated until the light sensor is turned off.
Until DISH corrects this poor design there may be no other viable solution.
