Most likely what has happened is that the gears have stripped. The gears inside are plastic but the spindle is metal. When a dough is too heavy and gets caught up in the beaters it tends to eat them. If you take it apart, you will probably find that the gears are shot.
The fix...order new gears, tear down the mixer and replace them. These gears really should have been metal! Check the sunbeam web site for authorized repair places to get your parts.

1. Remove the ejector button...it should pop out with a flat head screw driver. There is a small phillips head screw under it. Take it out.

2. Take out the screws on the bottom. This should allow the face plate on the mixer to slide off, allowing your motor assembly to then be pulled forward.

3. Remove the mounting brackets/shock absorbers...they are rubber u shaped items that hold the motor in. Once that is done, remove the black plastic bracket on the bottom; two phillip head screws. Then unscrew the two long screws underneath. they hold on the speed control electric board as well as the top to the gear box. Pop the silver fasteners on the side of the gear box and you are in. the gears should lift out. put the new ones in and do the whole thing in reverse.

hope this helps.

I have the same problem . In instruction #3 I removed the rubber u shaped brackets but the motor assembly won't come out. One problem is that the beater shafts extend through the case. Need more help.

Make sure your Beater can slip in and out of the Beater Shaft
easily. Do not force the beater onto the Shaft if the shaft is bent.
If it cannot be removed easily by hand, use a soft rubber mallet
(not a steel hammer) to slightly tap the beater so it can be moved
up and down the shaft or from side to side. Then you can easily
turn the beater left and remove it from the shaft.

From Kitchenaid Manual:
To Attach Flat Beater, Wire Whip, or Dough Hook
1. Turn speed control to OFF.
2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power.
3. Tilt motor head back.
4. Slip beater onto beater shaft and press upward
as far as possible.
5. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over pin on shaft.
6. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

Beater won't turn, but motor is running.

Hi, Did you push the beater in so that it clicks. If all is good there, gear box maybe at fault or jammed. Take it to a service center for repair. If you are machanicly inclined (DIY) Take it apart and see why its not turning. Good luck.

Beaters will not move

You have probably stripped a gear in the gear housing. Here is the breakdown of the gearbox:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%208212010.pdf

The newer "more improved" mixers use plastic gears and they can't take the beating, no pun intended, and fail.

The good news is that the most likely gear to fail is cheap. Here it is on amazon.com:

The beaters won't go around. The motor is running

I can't solve this problem, but mine just died doing the very same thing. Motor is running, the revolving base is turning, and the beaters are just sitting there. Ruined an entire batch of divinity!

Turntable does not turn. Motor runs. Beaters work.

I have the same one, and the turn table has never turned on it's own. from looking at the bottom of the stand, i think the mixers are supposed to turn the bowl, so i just give it a little turn, and the mixers kinda take care of the rest. BTW, i got 2 sets of beaters with mine and i dont know what the second set is for, do you? contact me at rawemo@hotmail.com

Beater does not turn

It sounds like the nylon gear is stripped out. It is a rather easy to replace and also inexpensive. A gentlemen posted a step by step site to replace the gear. The link is http://www.neilcrockett.com/mixer.htm
Good Luck
