This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

I HAVE FIVE GREY LINES WHEN I RECORD AND PLAYBACK YOU CAN SEE THE PICTURE BETWEEN GREY LINES

Sounds like the video heads require cleaning.
It may be best to take the camera to a Service Centre.

On my cannon digital video camcorder ( model MV730i) i am trying to play back some footage i have taken but on the view finder (and also on my computer when i transfer footage over) the picture is coming...

Possibly dirty head and/or dirty tape.Maybe even wear-out tape,too.
But the worst scenario would be faulty or damaged head, which would be not worth repair it.

Grey lines during playback.

Hi,
Camcorder video head required cleaning because gray lines come in playback when video head got clogged/ dirty.
Put video head cleaning tape and playback it as per instructions.
hope this will help you.
Thanks.

Canon XL2 wont record or playback tapes - grey

Sorry to hear your situation, usually when serviced by a technician, head and tape path is cleaned and adjusted. During use you will encounter pixelation problems occur and most case tape cleaner should resolve the problem. Your condition is where if all the system is ok and have a heavy clogging on the heads, requires technician to clean each head manually to bring it back. so look for a camcorder repair facility locally and get cleaned. If you cannot find one, the service is provided for around $100 at www.camerarepairjapan. Good Luck

Camcorder wont show images

This sounds like the iris is stuck almost closed. You can try gently tapping the side to attempt to release the iris. If that fils to resolve the problem, the unit should be brought to a servicer to rebuild the optical block.

You better take in to get it serviced. It could be the take motor or a head adjustment needed.

4-5 Grey Lines appearing in the Playback Mode when playing tape

I have the same problem happening and can't find a straight answer. Some posts are leading me to believe that it may be dirty heads, and that the camera needs cleaning.

Bad playback quality

Some possible cause of lines, noise or pixelation during playback are: 1. Dirty heads on the recording machine. If the heads were dirty at the time of recording, the dirty heads didn't record a strong enough signal on the tape. The damage is done for this tape and recovery is unlikely. Best advice here is to use only premium grade new tapes and keep your camcorder clean by occasionally running a cleaning tape. 2. Physical tape damage. Any distortion of the tape will result in mistracking and subsequent loss of data. 3. Built up oxide deposits or other debris in the guidepost corners can also result in tape edge damage. Keep your machine clean! 4. Improper tape storage - Even short term exposure to high temperatures over 130 deg f. can permanently damage the tape. The black cassette housing readily absorbs the sun's infrared rays and internal cassette temperatures can soar even if left in direct sunlight on just a warm day. It doesn't take much heat to slightly distort the plastic shell or ruin the tape contained within. * Try other tapes to ensure the problem lies within the tape and not the camcorder. * If the problem becomes apparent on all tapes, try a head cleaner. After cleaning the heads, the tapes may not play cleaner if the recording was done while the heads were dirty.
