I have an old kenmore over the counter microwave (vintage 1998). The "cook" relay shorted. I desoldered it and am ready to replace it but I cannot find that relay. The holes on the pcb obviously are set up to take a sub, but I don't know how to cross reference it. The relay is an OMRON and the p/n is G5J-1-TP-M (24vdc) The contacts are 16A 250VAC and 16A 30VDC. The coil is 24VDC. Any idea how I get a relay that would work here? I think the control board where the relay goes is made by LG.

Kenmore Microwave model Fan running and light on when door closed.

This is normal. Kenmore microwaves will stay running with fan and light on for a short time after food is cooked. The reason is to air out the microwave after cooking. Things like pop corn, Bacon etc. have strong smells after cooking. The ventilation helps to remove odors.

My sears kenmore counter top microwave model 99896 now takes 5 or 6 times for the start button to work.

It is from 1981, it is time for a new one. You are unlikely to get parts for one that old. It may be the button, but is more likely to be the contactor that the button activates. Take to a service centre and ask for a quote. Too dangerous to fix yourself.

Kenmore microwave model 401.85053010 won't heat or cook anything.

Unfortunately, this is not something that can be diagnosed from a distance, unless you had access to a "Kill-a-Watt" meter or equivalent. It could be caused by a bad door switch, a bad relay on the main board, a bad magnetron, or a bad HV diode. (The HV capacitor is probably OK, because if it were bad [shorted], it would blow fuses.)

I shorted out the counter lights on my frigidair microwave. The microwave works but not the lights. I've replaced the bulbs. What next?

The metal base may have fused together from electrical arcing when the old bulb was removed. The entire bulb receptacle (socket) will have to replaced. If you cannot do that yourself, the cost would be excessive. Just live without the light as long as the microwave gets the job done.

Kenmore elite microwave 79203 buzzes when off

It sounds like you have a shorted cook relay on your control circuit board.

That can usually be repaired more economically than replacing the circuit board.

I have a 3-year old Amana microwave installed above my stove. Last night I was baking two potatoes in the microwave. I noticed that the microwave sounded "louder" than normal. After about 13...

No! But it will need to be repaired. Did you wrap the potatoes in tin foil? The reason for the smoke needs to be found and repaired. Smoking means a short or a part shorted, failed, or wires touching another wire that did not blow any fuss. That is not good.
Trained technicians can help the mfg improve their products if they find the problem and report it to the Mfg.

Kenmore 665 68610891- built-in 1998 model

Fan relay on circuit board stuck. Give it a tap (the relay), to free it up. Otherwise get the relay or driver transistor replaced. Easy fix. Take it to an electronic repair place, not the brand agent.(They,ll just replace the whole board). If this Item is under warranty you should not be wasting my time.:::Spiceweasel.au
