Is there a patch to fix the clock error? my vostro does not keep time when shut down

If the clock won't keep time or the date is wrong, replace the depleted coin cell battery.

maybe it's a motherboard problem

this is happening because of bios upgrade but not in a bad way. May be there is a hardware problem just starting so new bios upgrade is detecting that and thats why its restarting.

basically sudden shut down occurs in either cases- Fan not working or hard disk(or RAM) gone bad.

my advise is to contact dell customer support and they will guide you thru trouble shooting steps.
they will guide you if your warranty is not there.

You need to update the BIOS.

This is a possible malware or virus attack. Your system is encountering data or system corruption preventing it to execute the command during shut down. Best fix is to reinstall Windows 7 in your computer to erradicate all errors and make sure to install an updated security software (antivirus) afterwards.

If the time is not keeping up then it would seem that you will need to change your CMOS battery, this is a small battery found on the motherboard responsible for clocking etc

The battery is cheap to purchase, however I do highly recommned the laptop be booked into a reputable PC shop for replacement as you will need to take the whole laptop apart to get the motherboard

Yes it is, however, the Vostro 200ST and MT series are the same board its a 10cent battery, they sell them at a camera store

There is small patch that needs to be updated

if it doesnt try this:
Reset the system by holding down the OK, Cancel, Black, and Color buttons down at the same time and turn the 3310 off. Keep holding the buttons down until the printer shuts off and the turn it back on. You will have to turn the printer off twice and then it will recalibrate. Make sure you have new cartiges in the printer so that it can reset

Same with my Dell Vostro 420. At this rate I will just buy a new PC as I am wasting too much time on this. We tried usual stuff like cleaning inside, making cooler, removing certain virus software, still no luck. I have to restart 4 times a day and keep saving material. Can only restart by turning it off by pulling out power socket.
