If the motor continues to hum afteer letting go of the button, then it is likely a broken drum belt. If the motor hums but stops when you let go of the button, something is preventing it from turning. This could be a seized motor or a drum that is stuck, or something caught in the fan blade.

the humming is coming from the motor,if you can spin the drum by hand and it moves freely you need to replace the motor,if it's hard to move you need to take the dryer apart to see why it's hanging up,the overload resets on the motor that's why after a while you'll hear the hum again,if you hold the button to long you'll pop the overload

Gas dryer won't start.

if the motor hums when you push the start button but wont move you probably have a frozen motor. happens from too much lint packed around the motor and ruins the bearings. if you can access the motor from a front kick panel you can check this. possibly something is jammed in the blower wheel as well. unplug it and check it out

Start problem

Hi,If you hear the hum while you are pushing the start button and when you let off the button the hum stops, you have a notor going bad.
If you can get someone to help you, open the door, hold the door switch in, while someone else holds the start button, you try and turn the drum with your other hand. Sometimes the motor will start but, this only confirms the motor is bad and needs replaced. I hope this helps.

Thanks
