My mother has the HP Photosmart C3180 All-in-One. I recently connected my Mac Powerbook to the printer, and printed out several pages, and then suddenly the printer stopped working. Info says the print cartridge is jammed. I replaced both print cartridges and checked for any possible jams (paper or otherwise) with no luck. The Check paper ad Check print cartridges lights still blink. Oddly, the utilities does not show that there is any black ink, though I have now tried several new black ink cartridges. The cartridge carrier seems to hang up right behind the vertical piece that separates the right side (where you change the ink) from the left side, and though I can manage to push the cartridge carrier across from one side to another, it hangs up, and will not go across on its own (unless I first push back the small lever that catches the cartridges, making the small connecting button pop down -- but it immediately resets the first time the cartridge slides across.
Have tried cleaning the gold connections on the printer and the ink cartridge -- but the black ink still doesn't register as being replaced.
I give up! Thanks for any help!

After inserting new cartridges in the photosmart C3180 and closing the door it makes loud clicking sound coming from the cartridge area and won't print.
Exactly what I'm experiencing, it goes though all the motions, but no ink is on the paper. I just installed 10.5.8 last night on my Mac Pro. The drivers are up to date, but no ink hits the paper.
you need to calibrate print head, look up to your manual, or try to place the printed test page in the scanner printed side down and hold scan button, after scan, problem should be solved
This is Maltesecross. Turns out that the faintness of my printed pages was in fact due to a low ink cartridge, even though some pages printed out fine and others half-good. Eventually, all pages turned faint, and upon re-installing the driver, I got a low-ink warning (the first one ever). Putting in a new ink cartridge solved the problem for me.
