How to reset bios password of hp 2530p notebook? a) Flashing BIOS anew won't work (password required) b) Removing RTC battery inside for one hour won't work either

  • Anonymous Dec 07, 2010

Access to BIOS is prevented by unknown password set by previous owner. Booting from any external device other than hard disk was disabled in BIOS. Nice Catch 22, isn't it? Unfortunately, HP has no backdoor to this kind of 'crypto-flashable' BIOS :-( Surprisingly, previous generation 2510p does not have this flaw (!). Solution came from HP Suport. Beleive it or not it is just plain motherboard replacement - under warranty thanks HP. Even they cannot recover access to blocked BIOS. Just a shame... Thanks everyone for your efforts to help.

I forgot my password to my hp g-60 notebook and need to do a factory rest

The BIOS password is set, ,
each generation of PC resets using a more difficult way.
easy to hard today.
why now as HP this, they built it. (not fixya) G60 means nothing.
see why>? posting the full service tag would be very helpful.

my guess is you are saying the F10 bios key is dead.
you power one and f10 is dead or will not let you into BIOS pages
nor do the BIOS inside pages set all BIOS defaults command.
is the RTC COIN cell dead. 7 years old today, is it?

one way to reset old PCs is to.
  • pull all main batteries huge out.
  • pull line cord, power pack from PC.
  • pull RTC coin cell.
  • push power button for 15 seconds. let caps discharge.
  • let sit for 1/2 hour deal like this.
reverse above. (warning only works on old PCs)
Old means 2010 or 2008 or older, (yours is on the cusp)
If your PC has UEFI TPM technology this does not work.
you need help from HP, to reset it.
some have backdoor password, that HP has list , why not ask them and not fixya.? they have the huge vast list there.
watch others doing the same thing , at HP.

see the backdoor PW there? if you do the same thing
there you get yours. (for your g60-nnnnxx)

To reset the compaq 2530p bios password

I'm not 100% sure this will work but you might have to take apart the laptop to reSEAT the bios battery. Unplug it from the motherboard then plug it back in. Usually once those pre-windows passwords are locked in they're locked in for good.

I need to rest password in bios

Hi,
Removing the RTC battery and leaving it uninstalled for 5 or more minutes causes all passwords and CMOS settings to be cleared. BIOS password can be removed by temporarily disconnecting/ removing the RTC/ CMOS (Coin-cell) battery from the motherboard.
Disconnect the coin-cell battery from the system board and it will reset the BIOS to its default setting and the password would be gone.
Please Refer to Page 29, 106 & 79 of the REPAIR MANUAL IBM T40 for Battery removal, keyboard removal and RTC battery removal instructions.
The Backup Battery (RTC, CMOS) is located under the keyboard. So you have to remove the keyboard to access the battery. The above Manual from IBM shows the exact method/ instructions and pictures for laptop dis-assembly for the purpose.
If you are comfortable with working inside such electronics, you can't do it yourself, or else you may seek help from local laptop service professional.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

I need to reset the bios on my Compaq TC1000. I tried removing the RTC battery and replacing as HP suggested but that didn't work, They then suggested I need to flash my bios. I cant find instructions for...

To flash the BIOS you need to download the BIOS from a link which HP provides.. so contact them and tell them to provide you with the BIOS link..
You need to download the BIOS and install it..
However after removing the RTC battery I would suggest you to hold the notebook power button for 20 secs..
This should remove all the residua power..
I think it will remove the BIOS password...
If it does not work then you could flash the BIOS..
What sayy???

Forgot my power on password

Remove the battery and to the power cord.
Remove the two screws that secure the keyboard. After removing the keyboard, remove the battery “RTC” to stop providing energy to epprom BIOS. After the upgrade or downgrade, or any repair, leave the Laptop for 5 minutes, without any source of energy.
Then connect only the power cord without battery and without the battery “RTC” of the Bios.
then turn on the pc without the battery and press f10 change the admin password put the battery of the laptop again not the rtc battery then save changes and exit, reeboot with the win xp disk inside , change boot order and done i garantied it work install xp and then connect the rtc battery done. jajaja easy
