Problems playing DVDs, Random Disk Error

I have an intermittent problem playing DVD movies. Sometimes when I rent one, it won't recognize it, but I can play it on my other DVD player so I know it is not the DVD itself. I tried my head cleaning disk to see if that would help, but it doesn't recognize that either. Help!

It is a Sylvania DVR90VE made in September 2004. Bought in USA.

Thank you for your suggestons. The CD music disk works fine, so I want to try the firmware update procedure, but I'm having a hard time finding firmware on their website. Any hints where to go? I tried DVDhelp.com and didn't have any luck either.

To answer this I need to know the make, model and year of your DVD player, and if you bought it in northamerica, or europe.

put a CD music disk (store bought type) in the DVD player. If it doesn't play it- the machine is bad. If it DOES play it-then your DVD player has trouble with dual layer DVDs. Sylvania probably has a firmware update on their website. If they do, downlosd it to CD on your computer, then put it in the DVD player and follow the instructions given. Or go to www.DVDhelp.com and search for the comparable firmware update.

Dvd-l200

It depends how you burn movies (for example). If you burned as data disc, it's probably won't play it. Make sure you burn movies as DVD format.

My RCA RTD317 has problems recognizing most DVD movie disks. It will play some disks most of the time and all audio disks, so I figure the lasers are working. What could be the problem?

If you've tried cleaning the Laser with a Lens Cleaner Disk or directly with Lens Cleaner Fluid and a QTip without any improvement then the Laser is Failing.

It takes less power to read some DVDs than others and a lot less power to read an Audio CD. The Laser will continue to deteriorate until it won't play anything.

Whenever I load a rental dvd, I get "Disk Error",

This unit has had problems playing dual layered dvds and since most newer are Dl try a older rental Movie and see if that works

RDR-VX530 will not play DVDs rented from Video store. Set of 3 DVDs, played first DVD will not play DVD 2 or 3. Displays loading message for couple of minutes then ejects DVD. Intermittent problem with any...

When a DVD player starts doing that, it either needs to be cleaned, or something is going wrong with the DVD mechanism inside of it. You can purchase DVD lens cleaner from any large retail store that has an electronics section. However, if you clean it and the problem persists, it will likely be cheaper to replace the unit rather than trying to have it repaired unless you're under warranty in which case any repair or exchange will be covered by said warranty. If you call the manufacturer they will give you your full range of options.

OK. The movie industry strikes again! Your RENTED DVDs are the key.Hollywood made some adjustments to prevent the copying of the movies. So they put software to detect the kind of drives in which the movies are inserted. DVD/RW are capable of copying a movie, so they are disqualified as playing devices. Have it be a normal DVD player you won't be facing any troubles.

American DVDs unable to play for my PS3

At this time the region lock on ps3 only includes DVD and ps1-2 titles. Although some games will have the 80028F10 error. Most ps3 and blue ray will play without problems, my only suggestion being that if you are in the US, make sure you get a US ps3.

LAPTOP DVD DRIVE WONT PLAY DVDS

ok " get a CD/ DVD cleaning disk , you pop that in and it will clean the lens inside, and they don't cost much, but do so much
good. happy movie watching
