If you are not hearing sound after installing XP, then you have to install the sound drivers to get sound.
After installing sound drivers restart the system and then see if the sound comes or nor.
If you are still having problem then update your sound driver and install the updated driver. After this you are having problem then make sure that your sound system is proper.
Test your speakers with another PC and then connect it to your PC. If the speakers are gone wrong then change them.
If speakers are alright then while attaching the speakers to your system, make sure that they are plugged in right jack.
After plugging them start them,if there is no sound them start the system and see that you have not muted the volume in the "notification bar".
Also check the below step
Go to your desktop. Click Start > Control Panel >
Sounds and Audio Devices > Volume tab. If everything is grayed out,
go to step 8. If the "Mute" box is checked, UN-check it. In "Device
Volume" make sure that your volume level is set to a comfortable volume
level for your speakers.
This will surely solve your problem.
Hope the above information will be helpful to you.
Thanks.
