LG front load washer spinsense buttom does not come on

SAME PROBLEM WITH SPINSENSE. I PRESS AND HOLD SPINSENSE BUTTON FOR 3 SECONDS-----NOTHING HAPPENS. THAT BUTTON IS SUPPOSED TO FLASH INDICATING SPINSENSE IS ACTIVATED. IT DOES NOT. NEED REPAIR EVEN THOUGH WASHER IS 2 DAYS OLD. NOT IMPRESSIVE.

  • RMG28 Aug 04, 2008

My machine is two hours old and I can't get the Spinsense to work either. I really need it because when the washer spins, it shakes so much that you can hardly see the controls. This is ridiculous - a brand new machine!!! If I try to hold the button before starting the wash cycle, the button comes on and stays on which tells the washer I want to skip right to the rinse/spin cycle.

My spinsense light works but does NOTHING for the shaking. have had 3 repairman out, one said to buy shake away pads(did this still shakes all over the place) one said take pedistal off and see what happens(did this, no change) and to add extra floor (my house is almost new and very well built, but we did it,added 1/2 "solid board) by this time I start feeling we got a lemon, and the repairmen is just there to make excuses. next repair says all lg front loader does this its normal, and should be on a concrete floor, or go under house and put jacks on floor. I cann't believe this, has anyone else got this type of run around, if so what did you do about getting your money back or a replacment.

I have the LG WM3988HWA, which is a washer and dryer in one. The way it works on ours is that you press and hold the Spinsense button for 3 seconds before you start a wash, or while a wash is paused. When Spinsense is on, the LCD will say "Spinsense" on the right-hand side when the machine is running. Nothing happens with the light on the Spinsense button.

Spinsense makes a huge difference as the machine is on the second floor of our old wooden house. I don't even notice the spin cycle with Spinsense on.

Problems:
1. We need to turn it on for every load. This is just annoying.
2. Spinsense will not turn on when you've the Dryer option activated. This means we have to do two trips to the machine for each load, or have our house feel like it's shaking to pieces. There's no good reason that the Spinsense/Dryer shouldn't work.

I thought mine didnt work either - but here is how it goes.

My washer used to shake my entire house, so I read how to use spinsense again. Basically, ONE time, while the washer is running in any cycle, press and hold the spinsense button for three seconds. I kept expecting that button to blink, or turn on... but... what does happen is that the spin speed light next to whatever speed it is on will start flashing. That is how you know spinsense is activated.

MY question is, why wouldnt you want spinsense, and why didnt they build it into the machine???

Good luck.
Amy

I have a Master's degree in engineering and actually read the instructions three times before I finally figured out the deal with Spinsense :-)
On some LG models (my model), when you press and hold the Spinsense button, nothing seems to happen. It sort of beeps but the light doesn't come on. What's the deal? The light on the spinsense button is for the Stain Guard option. If Spinsense is on, the _Spin Cycle_ light will blink. That's your indication.
Not clear from the panel, and not clear from the instructions. But for my washing in the second floor of our new house, it made a big difference.

I believe that you need to push and hold the button to get it activated.  If that doesn't work, turn on spinsense before starting the wash.

I can't turn on SpinSense on my LG WM3987HW combo washer-dryer. I've tried pressing the button for 3 seconds in nearly every mode, on or off, locked, unlocked, wash, spin, rinse. I've managed to get it on...

I have an earlier version of your machine (WM3988HWA). What I've found is that you can't use the Spinsense feature if you've got the Dry cycle set to go after your wash. I have no idea why they designed it this way!
We run the wash first without setting it to dry, and have no problem turning Spinsense on. I usually hold it down for 3 second after hitting the start button, but you can also do it before you start the wash. When the wash is done, then we start a dry cycle.
This is the main flaw with our otherwise great machine. I posted about it at http://www.fixya.com/ThreadAsker.aspx?thid=1844295 a long time ago but never got any advice.

On the spin cycle setting, should the green light be blinking all the time through the whole wash load.

It blinks when you have spinsense mode activated. When you first start a load just press and hold the water plus button for 3 seconds to turn it on and off. I'm honestly still not sure what exactly the spinsense mode does but thats all it is so nothing to worry about.

This machine from day one had an imbalance problem. Yes the shipping bolts have been removed. It has got to the point now that we see the machine getting closer and closer to our furnace which is 3 feet...

OK the washer is fine the problem is how the unit was inproperaly installed.

If your washer has spin sense please activate it by ...
Power on
Select wash cycle
Start
Press and hold the spinsense button for 3 seconds
A beep will be heard and the spin speed display light will blink .
Spin sense will remain active untill you turn it off.

Put 5-6 full size bath towles in the washer.
Select quick wash.
When the washer is in the spin cycle...
Adjust each leg of the washer untill the washer smooths out.

If you have pedastals snug up the washer leggs to the pedastal then proceed as above.

Your washer came with a flat silver adjustment wrench to remove shipping bolts and adjust the leggs of the washer.

MY LG washer is out of balance. I have been told there is a demo mode that can rebalance the washer drum. Do you know how to do this?

The demo mode does not do what you want it to do. Demo mode allows the retailer to demonstrate the wash tumbling without hooking the machine up to water and drain, and show the spin, and allows a servicer to test see those things, plus testing of the display board, water fill, and even the heater if your model has one. Demo mode will NOT "rebalance" the washer drum. Some models have a "Spinsense" setting, and newer models have a "Tru balance" ring, which does a very good job. (no, it is not a retro-fit type drum) Your only solution is to make sure your machine is on a solid floor, level, and all legs making firm contact with the floor. Load selection and load size have a limited effect on un-balanced situations, but The biggest factor here is having a SOLID FLOOR.

I have the spinsense option activated. I want to turn it off and I want to activate the tub clean option. The won't work when I press and hold the button for 3 seconds. What can I do?

Push and hold Stain Cycle button for 3 seconds to cancel spinsense. Then, turn off machine. When you power it back on, press "Extra Rinse" for 3 seconds and push the START button.

When cleaning tub, do NOT use detergent--only use liquid chlorine bleach.

Extra Spin cycle?

(I know this is an old question, but its probably a common question for new owners - including me a couple of weeks ago...)

Power the unit back on, press the spin speed button and it will select the "drain and spin" cycle. Pressing the spin speed button again will select different spin speeds as well as just "drain".

Something you might try instead of medium spin speed is to turn on "SpinSense". To turn this on (and off), press and hold the "Stain Cycle" button for 3 seconds while any wash program is in process.

What SpinSense does is measure the imbalance by doing a very slow spin before cranking the spin speed up (and measuring how constant the very low spin speed is). If the balance is out too much, it will stop, let the clothes drop, and then try another slow spin. It will try this over and over many times until the balance is decent. Then it will let it rip. It makes a huge difference, but it can spend a lot of time getting a good balance some times.

SpinSense also seems to be able to detect if the machine is shaking terribly, shut the spin down and try again.

Our LG 2688 is on our 1st floor (wooden floor). Without SpinSense, the vibration was terrible and with it, it is tolerable.

For some reason we typically get less vibration with "Extra High" spin speed compared to "High" so that is another option you might try.

Spin speed

If that light is blinking, it's because the spinssense is turned on. If you look at the lighted buttons all the way on the top right of the machine, one of them says spinsense under it. While the machine is running, press and hold that button for 3 seconds. You'll hear a little chime and the light should stop blinking. It's supposed to help vibrations on wood floors.
