I have the LG WM3988HWA, which is a washer and dryer in one. The way it works on ours is that you press and hold the Spinsense button for 3 seconds before you start a wash, or while a wash is paused. When Spinsense is on, the LCD will say "Spinsense" on the right-hand side when the machine is running. Nothing happens with the light on the Spinsense button.
Spinsense makes a huge difference as the machine is on the second floor of our old wooden house. I don't even notice the spin cycle with Spinsense on.
Problems:
1. We need to turn it on for every load. This is just annoying.
2. Spinsense will not turn on when you've the Dryer option activated. This means we have to do two trips to the machine for each load, or have our house feel like it's shaking to pieces. There's no good reason that the Spinsense/Dryer shouldn't work.
I thought mine didnt work either - but here is how it goes.
My washer used to shake my entire house, so I read how to use spinsense again. Basically, ONE time, while the washer is running in any cycle, press and hold the spinsense button for three seconds. I kept expecting that button to blink, or turn on... but... what does happen is that the spin speed light next to whatever speed it is on will start flashing. That is how you know spinsense is activated.
MY question is, why wouldnt you want spinsense, and why didnt they build it into the machine???
Good luck.
Amy
I have a Master's degree in engineering and actually read the instructions three times before I finally figured out the deal with Spinsense :-)
On some LG models (my model), when you press and hold the Spinsense button, nothing seems to happen. It sort of beeps but the light doesn't come on. What's the deal? The light on the spinsense button is for the Stain Guard option. If Spinsense is on, the _Spin Cycle_ light will blink. That's your indication.
Not clear from the panel, and not clear from the instructions. But for my washing in the second floor of our new house, it made a big difference.
I believe that you need to push and hold the button to get it activated. If that doesn't work, turn on spinsense before starting the wash.

SAME PROBLEM WITH SPINSENSE. I PRESS AND HOLD SPINSENSE BUTTON FOR 3 SECONDS-----NOTHING HAPPENS. THAT BUTTON IS SUPPOSED TO FLASH INDICATING SPINSENSE IS ACTIVATED. IT DOES NOT. NEED REPAIR EVEN THOUGH WASHER IS 2 DAYS OLD. NOT IMPRESSIVE.
My machine is two hours old and I can't get the Spinsense to work either. I really need it because when the washer spins, it shakes so much that you can hardly see the controls. This is ridiculous - a brand new machine!!! If I try to hold the button before starting the wash cycle, the button comes on and stays on which tells the washer I want to skip right to the rinse/spin cycle.
My spinsense light works but does NOTHING for the shaking. have had 3 repairman out, one said to buy shake away pads(did this still shakes all over the place) one said take pedistal off and see what happens(did this, no change) and to add extra floor (my house is almost new and very well built, but we did it,added 1/2 "solid board) by this time I start feeling we got a lemon, and the repairmen is just there to make excuses. next repair says all lg front loader does this its normal, and should be on a concrete floor, or go under house and put jacks on floor. I cann't believe this, has anyone else got this type of run around, if so what did you do about getting your money back or a replacment.
