We had the same problem and figured out that the "Try Me" tab (demo mode) was not removed properly which is a little plastic piece that is inserted in a hole next to the reset button. It's supposed to come out when you open the package, but it got ripped in half in ours. I took the plastic piece from another pixel chix package and put it in and out of the hole and it works now.

my 3 story pixel chix roomies house won't work it keeps on doing demos on every window i can't control them plz help
