My Kenmore sewing machine model number is 17630, & when I try to set the stitch length from a Straight Stitch setting to a Straight STRETCH Stitch setting, there isn't any difference. I have the length at 2 which is always beside S.S. which means this is always set on Straight STRETCH. How do I set the two so they are different?

Take a look at the stitch length dial. If you turn that dial counter clockwise (to about 7 o'clock), it will set to stretch stitch. Then all of the stretch stitch features will work. When you want to go back to straight stitching, just move that dial back to what ever stitch length you wish.

Why does my Simplicity American Quilter SA2400LX only stitch straight now? The stitch selector works correctly, but only stitches straight.

There are a few possible reasons why your Simplicity American Quilter SA2400LX is only stitching straight:
  1. Stitch length setting: Check that the stitch length setting is not set to zero or a very small number. If it is, the machine will only sew straight stitches.
  2. Stitch selector mechanism: It's possible that there is a problem with the stitch selector mechanism that is preventing it from engaging properly. You may need to take it to a repair technician to have this checked and fixed.
  3. Tension setting: Make sure that the tension setting is correct for the type of stitch you are trying to sew. If the tension is too high, it can cause the machine to only sew straight stitches.
  4. Timing: The timing of the machine may be off, which can cause the machine to not properly engage the stitch selector mechanism. This is a more complicated issue and may require professional repair.
If you are comfortable with sewing machine repairs and want to try to fix it yourself, start with checking the stitch length and tension settings. If those are not the issue, it may be best to take it to a repair technician for further diagnosis and repair.

Huskystar 207 Sewing Machine stuck on zig zag stitch

If your Huskystar 207 sewing machine is stuck on zigzag stitch even when you have selected a straight stitch pattern, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the needle position: Make sure that the needle is in the center position. If it is not, you may need to adjust it using the machine's settings.
  2. Check the stitch length and width: Make sure that the stitch length and width are set to the appropriate settings for a straight stitch. Refer to your manual for the correct settings.
  3. Check the tension: If the tension is too loose or too tight, it can cause the machine to sew a zigzag stitch instead of a straight stitch. Make sure the tension is set correctly for the fabric you are working with.
  4. Clean the machine: Sometimes, a buildup of dust and lint can cause the machine to malfunction. Try cleaning the machine, particularly the bobbin case and feed dogs, to see if this resolves the issue.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to take your machine to a professional for repair.

Singer 6510 3 dial machine - no "S" on stitch length dial selector

Lower numbers moves the fabric further for each time the needle penetrates the fabric. . If you raise the number you will get more stitches per inch which means your fabric is moving more slowly. Try moving the number to different locations for examples. If you are attempting to make something so it will stretch you are probably wanting to use a zigzag stitch. A wide zigzag stitch will allow a longer stretch than a less wide zigzag stitch.

How do i get a straight stitch on my golden touch & sew model 640 machine

Check for diagrams on the selector wheel and then adjust your stitch length. Do not set to tight as your thread will break

Trouble sewing lycra fabric using a zig zag stitch

You have the machine set for blind hem stitching. Change the stitch selector to stretch stitch, which is a single, in line stitching zig zag stitch.

What are the best settings on the 4 dials for the straight stitch? Do the ones on top have to match the wheel settings below? Thanks from a novice

Hello,
#1- tension settings, set this to "5" and leave it
#2- width control setting, 0 would be straight while 5 would be the full width of the stitch (would make a wide zig zag)
#3- Length control, larger the number, longer the stitch. (usually you will set this from 1.5 to 2.5)
#4- Stitch selector, match up the number with the stitch you want to sew. If you want to use the lower row of stitches (14-25) set the length dial to "ss". (ss stands for stretch stitch, such as for #14 (three rows of straight dashed lines) instead of just sewing one stitch forward, the machine will sew back and forth giving you a stretchy stitch/stronger)

Singer Model 6212c only sews in reverse... Just brought this machine home today. Ha Ha, it only sews in reverse mode.

there's probably nothing wrong with your machine.

check and see if your stitch length setting is set to Stretch instead of somewhere between 2 and 3.

If it's in the stretch zone (below 0), it can sometimes sew backwards unexpectedly depending on what stitch you have selected.

make sure you have selected a straight stitch, and then select the highest stitch width and a stitch length of somewhere between 2 and 3.

it will most likely work fine.

How do I do a stretch stitch?

The bes way to hem a t-shirt on a household machine is to use a double needle, straight stitch. You will see two straight stitches on top and zig zag on the back. Just make sure the zig zag catched the top of the hem.

Stretch stitch

Knobs left to right - Needle position = Center, Length to something reasonable (try 3 to start), Width - hold the knob in and turn it to other than 0.
