Hotpoint DLB2450 Works fine most of the time, but every so often-it wont heat up. Barrel still turns. Last repairman said it was the timer switch. Is that possible?

this possibly a bad contact on the panel board, thats why the system
malfunction by itself. better to check on the every switch contact and
clean for any moisture on the board.
I just read that starting the microwave as usual and then slightly pressing in the handle (you can hear the heater(?) come on will make the heat come on. Tried it and it works. My repairman told me it needed a new magnetron ($700) but that was totally wrong. I will be trying another repairman to replace handle mechanism.
it seems to me that it is a fan oven and the top element won't heat up you need a new fan oven element. it is a round element that sits behind the back grill surrounding the fan...
There are two coils in the heating element, and if one burns out, the timer will not advance in automatic dry. The timer should still advance when using manual (or timed) dry.
Strange. Heaters usually shut down with the spinning drum when door is open. If you check the schematic for unit you can check to see if in fact this is correct operation. Attached site usually has schematics for appliances. You might want to check. Search Over 2 1 Million Appliance Parts
Things that could stop a electric dryer from heating: - house fuse or breaker ( needs two of them ), heating element, burnt wire, thermostat(s), thermal fuse ( not all models ), motor heat switch, timer, selector switch, burnt power cord/plug. A ohm meter test for these parts is here.
The problem is that the magnatron is not getting power. Chance is that if could be a bolwn fuse inside the unit. If the fuse don't fix it then that leaves the charging diode, capacitor or the magnatron, or high voltage xformer of which without technical epertize I would not recomend attempting to replace. good luck
