It's very easy to remove the top cover of the Microteks.
First, remove the scanner's lid. Just tug up gently at the rear of the lid. On most models, the lid slides up on two posts about an inch for thick media, like books. Then just tug up gently again, and the posts come out of their holes. To put the lid back, just insert the two posts in the holes, couldn't be easier.
Removing the lid is also very handy for copying bulky items other than paper. If you might need some kind of background, you can lay a piece of paper or cloth over the object.
With the lid off, the E3/E6 have four screws exposed on top, one near each corner. The V300/V600 have two screws near the rear. The top cover has no wires or attachments at all, it is entirely separate (but some of the OEM clones appear to have the status LEDs on the top cover). Remove the screws on the top of the unit. It's easier to just leave them freely loose in the holes until you get the cover off. When the screws are free, just lift up on the top cover, and it comes off cleanly. The E3/E6 cover lifts straight up. The V300/V600 cover is moved forward slightly as it is lifted off, to disengage the tabs at the front.
The glass is secured to the cover.
The cover goes back on just as easy.

Regards....

Follow these steps to clean the scanner :
1

Open up your scanner's lid. It does not matter if the scanner is on or off for this basic, regular cleaning.

2

Wipe down the glass surface with a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth. This will remove any dust or other fine particles that have accumulated on the scanner. You should remove excess dust every day or two.

3

Scan a blank sheet of white paper into your computer and look for visible discoloration. A white sheet will provide a clean, blank slate to view the scanner's overall quality. If you notice any irregularities on the white sheet, you need to do more thorough, semi-regular cleaning.

Semi-Regular Cleaning

1

Turn off the scanner and open up the lid.

2

Spray a small amount of "mild glass cleaner" on a soft, clean cloth as recommended by Scanner-Magic.com.

3

Wipe the scanner's glass to thoroughly clean the area. You should perform this semi-regular cleaning at least every two weeks or sooner if a white sheet of paper indicates discoloration.

4

Keep the scanner's lid open for a few minutes until all excess glass cleaner has dried.

How to clean the underside of the glass in a HP scanjet 2400

Hi ,
You probably already found this :
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/performMaintDisplay/?sp4ts.oid=297429&spf_p.tpst=psiContentDisplay&spf_p.prp_psiContentDisplay=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c01275864-2%257CdocLocale%253Den_US&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken
According to it , you should normaly contact a HP technician to have the job done . Nevertheless , I succeeded to clean the underside of the glass inside a HP Scanjet 5470C wich seems similar to your model 2400 . If you take of the lid of the unit , you should find two screws in the opening of the hinges . Unscrew them and lift up the the whole top of the unit . You might encounter somme kind of resistance during the operation but I finally succeeded to get the it free that way .
Best regards .

I want to clean the underside scanning glass of the HP C4180 scanner/printer because when I scann, the top is clean, but the scaned pictures look like they have little specks of dust all over the scanned...

It takes several steps to remove the glass carrier for cleaning, but it's not really difficult. You'll need a T10 Torx screwdriver, eyeglasses cleaner or similar, and a lint-free microfiber cloth.

1) Remove usb and power cables. Flip the front covers open (revealing the cartridge-insertion area). Remove 2 screws from the right-side panel, and remove that panel.

2) Open the photo-paper holder on the left side, depress plastic tabs on its top and bottom so it can swing out 90 degrees, and remove it.

3) Remove 2 screws from the left-side panel, and remove the panel. This exposes the gears of the paper-handling mechanism; take care not to move the gears. Disconnect the three ribbon cables connected the bottom circuit board.

4) Flip up the LCD, exposing a screw. (Note that this one is shorter than all of the others.) Remove the screw. Lift the scanner lid and remove two screws just behind the rear of the glass. Close the cover. Lift the rear of the glass carrier, then slide it back slightly to remove it. Take care not to move the scanner bar that remains in the main body of the machine.

5) Keeping the lid shut, flip the glass carrier over over. Spray cleaner on the glass and wipe; repeat as needed. I use a bright light at a low angle to check for particles on the glass.

To reassemble, just reverse the steps. Finish by cleaning the top of the glass.

I cant use my scanner..i need to install it.how?????????

Step 1. Install Microtek ScanWizard 5
Install the ScanWizard 5 scanner driver (included in your Microtek CD-ROM) as instructed in the Installing and Getting Started booklet(a separate document that came with your scanner package).
For ScanWizard 5 to work properly after installation, the correct scanner model should be properly connected to your host beforehand and it needs to be "powered on" before launching the software.
