I have same problem. I turn on the camera you hear it trying to come on, shows display pic for like 3 seconds and then shuts down. If I could get the lens to retract I am sure the camera would work.

Most lens errors on the SD30 are caused by the camera being dropped or bumped while the lens is extended. The impact causes the brass pinion gear to shear teeth of on the ring gear that extends and retracts the lens assembly. Even if the teeth are OK the impact may cause the tracking pins on the inner lens housing or front lens carrier to jump their tracking groves. About the only solution is to disassemble the entire lens assembly; replace the inner housing that contains the ring gear, or realign the tracking pins in their proper groves. Fortunately I have written an extensive repair manual that covers the step by step procedure of doing just that. It is available by emailing Jim at [email protected].

How to fix Powershot Elph 530S so that the lens retract all the way when powering off

From the way you describe the problem it appears that the retraction mechanism has become out of line. I think that as you can hear a clicking sound the mechanism is working but not engaging with the lens. Try gently applying slight pressure on the front of the lens this may help to re-engage. You may need to consider a trip to the repair shop.

How do i fix a Lens error in canon powershot elph 300hs?

None of the suggested solutions worked for me and my Elph 300HS. However, I took it apart, removing the back. There was a screw inside holding on the front panel which I could not budge no matter what, so I gave up. I put it back together, reinserted the battery, powered on and voila, it was back to normal. Perhaps disconnecting the battery for a while was key. Had I not tried the multi-step approach suggested, it would still be stuck.
