Door will only close when held down

Got the Chamberlain Professional garage door opener model 41BD002-2 & have to hold down button to close it until it goes all the way down. Tried moving sensor with orange light & it still won't change. Any other suggestions? I HAVE AN OLDER SEARS CRAFTSMAN GARAGE DOOR OPENER AND I'M HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM. THE REMOTE WILL NOT ACTIVATE THE GARAGE DOOR (ALTHOUGH THE LITE COMES ON AND THE OPENER WILL MAKE A CLICK. HOWEVER IF I USE THE WALL MOUNTED OPENER INSIDE THE GARAGE, IT WILL OPEN IF YOU HOLD THE BUTTON IN. WITH ALL OF THIS, ONCE IT IS CLOSED IT WILL OPEN IF YOU PUSH THE BUTTON ON THE WALL. HELP!!!!!

PLEASE AND THANK YOU

The little sensor on plastic screw does not move anymore to the stoppers after the door had a shock trying to close while there was a 3ft piece of wood left on the side of the door. Can we change only this part? It is where the screws for up and down adj. are. It is easily removable with 3 little plug in wires.Thank you.Linda

I have a problem with my Sears garage door opener. The motor wants to continue to cycle when the door has been opened or closed. Also the inside unit that has 2 buttons that you push at the same time to get the door open and closed isn't working right. You used to only have to push them to start the door opening, now you have to push and hold them to get the door to go up or down. This started when my kids tried to force the door open during a power outage. I have tried to adjust the limit switches with little success. Any suggestion would be appreciated!

That normally happens when the sensors aren't aligned. Both sensors have led lights on them the yellow/orange one will stay on all the time the green one will go out if it cant see the other sensor. Possibly theres a wire that's broken or the other sensor is really out of alignment. Check every inch of wiring from the sensor to the opener, remove wire nuts if present and check the connections. The wires that are used are small, solid and can break easily. Also see if there's a staple that's too tight, move the wire abit where it's stapled and look for damage.

I had the same problem and found only the sensor with orange light was on. The green light was off. Found the wire from the green light sensor had a bad contact at the pinch connector on the back of the unit. Removed and reinserted the wires and all is well.

Have similar problem. I just checked the wiring and removed some cobwebs and oiled the chain. The handheld worked fine. I still have to put this baby thru some more tests. Will update. Goodluck!

My Chamberlain 41A5389-1B 1/2HP door opener will only close via the wall push button when it is held down until door is fully closed. Will not close with remote, when using the remote it will start to...

Have you checked the tracks on both sides? If the door closes when you hold the wall button there may be an obstruction or a bad guide. This could exert enough resistance to make it stop and reverse. Holding the wall button allows it to keep going past the problem.

My garage door opener opens with remote but will not close with remote. will open with wall button but button must be held down until door touches floor to close

Check the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor.

Wall mount button LED is flashing, remotes won't work, door won't close unless the wall mount button is held down until the door is fully closed

Sounds like you have a couple problems. First of all press and hold the button on the wall control that has a lock icon for 3 seconds and release. This should take care of the flashing LED and the remotes will now work. Having to hold the button on the wall control until the door is closed is usually a problem with the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each is lit and not flickering.
