if you are running Vista, try right click on the sound devices window. A short menu with "show disabled devices" comes up. Pick "show disabled" and the sound card should appear. Then right click the card and enable.

Sound card is not working in CQ40-133TU

You need to download the audio driver from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the XP Windows version of the drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

In order to get drivers you are going to have to look at the devices you have installed and write them down. You may have to go to their websites for their drivers that they have for that particular operating system.
