Hi,
It is Fixable around $100 - $150.
http://www.e18error.com/
On the above link, you would see a Lawsuit against Canon for the same.
This Error usually Requires a Replacement of Lens which is not cost effective relative to the cost of the Camera.
Let me know,if needed further assistance.
Hope i helped you.
Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Thank you for your expertise, and enlightening me about the possible Class Action Lawsuit. My first thought was returning the camera to 'The Caanonites' and telling them to stick the camera 'where the sun don't shine', but now you've given me more ammunition to possibly get their attention regarding the repair of their defective product. I had pretty much given up on any product satisfaction (I have sent this camera to them twice before for repairs!), but now I have some leverage I can use to possibly get some consumer satisfaction...if not, I'll ship it to them (at my cost) and tell them they can stick it up their A**!
Further to 'E18' on Canon Powershot A95
First, I tried compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and dry compressed air (20 lbs) set the tip between the lens turret and the camera body and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should function fine. DIDN'T WORK! Then I tapped the padded USB cover part on a hard surface, for example, a desk. It sounds so simple, but IT WORKED!
