Two Maxtor hard drives - Master 6Y080L0 and Slave 6K040L0 Jumper set as Master for the 80 and no jumper for the 40. These are the identical settings shown printed on both drives. I beleive the cable/ribbon is an 80 and it is connected to the Blue No.1 IDE socket on the ASRock Motherboard. Cable/ribbon connected - end to the Master (80) and middle to the Slave (40). This is recognised by the system BIOS etc and drives work correctly. Have also tested connection using jumpers for Cable Select which works equally correctly. Norton System Works however announces on Boot Up "Protection Attention - Access Denied Drive F:"

Essential you have one license allowed and it checks the primary HD via its 'utilities function', and only does a general scan of slave. Since you did not mention Norton version nor your OS general assist here. You might consider going into Options and having it scan both HDs, worked for me.

Need jumper settings wd800 as Mast. & maxtor Dia.plus as slave??

To use the WD 800 as a master there must be no jumper attached to it.The maxtor has a diagram for the jumper and it MUST be set to slave not cable select.

I want to add another hard drive and need to know how to set the jumpers on my maxtor 90645d3 please help.ty

if you want to boot from this drive, please set the jumper to the master position.

if this drive is for additional storage, please set the jumper to slave. and make sure 1st hard drive is set to master.

if this is the only drive in the system, please set the jumper to single or remove the jumper.

there will be a chart telling you which pins are for which setting in the jumper area, which is between the data plug and the power plug on the back of your HDD.

main thing that will cause drives to not work is 2 jumpers on the same cable and they both are set to the same thng.. i.e. master/master or slave/slave. also, if one is set to single drive it will likely bypass the slave drive.

Jumper settings for a maxtor N256 master with slave

Select the maxtor HDD as master by setting the Jumper to the extreme left of the hdd; i.e. next to the data cable.
Remove all jumpers from the other HDD which you want to put as slave.

Maxtor diamondmax plus 9 6y080l0

If you have you primary HDD set on Cable select, and the secondary HDD is set on anything other then Cable select (with the jumper settings on the back of the HDD) then there will be an error.. Also, if you primary is set to master/slave and the same for the secondary, it will cause problems.

Another thought, if one of your drives is SATA and the other IDE, if the IDE is set to master, there may be an issue as SATA HDD's will try to post as the master drive
