When I took the power supply cover off, I looked through a square opening that goes back beyond the power board or whatever, and there's a cylindrical fuse like a common inline fuse for christmas tree lights only larger! Its labeled. F101! The filament is not visable it like the glass on the fuse is stained brown like chocolate milk? Is it supposed to be that way or is it blown? Its soldered on so if it is bad how do I remove it?

If everything else in the houser works then the problem is inside the tv. Since the tv is completely dead that means that the power source board is faulty - otherwise you would have got the fault warning light lit.
To more precisely identify the faulty part the tv must be opened and the board tested. If you don't have electronics experience all you can do are some basic checks: that when you try to start it no arking is generated, that all the components are ok - no deformations, leaking, smoking or burn marks, and finally that the power reaches the board (use a voltmeter set on AC to check that).
If all appears ok then it's time to call a certified repairman - the fault is in the electronics, beyond your expertise.

You have a possible failure in the main power supply which is a switch mode power supply.
Remove plug and then the rear panel. Use a good multimeter to trace from the main plug to the SMPS unit. Find a fuse here and if the fuse blows up again then the SMPS has failed.
Please find tips to repair the SMPS unit.

http://www.fixya.com/support/r5826301-working_switch_mode_power_supplies

If the SMPS is in order as the supply comes up once the main line to the mother board is disconnected, then the fault is in the mother board for a possible failure in the main drivers sections.

Using the multimeter trace the short , remove , power to test for correct voltage before you can replace with the same part.

HI,
look on the power board and change theses caps: C8017 2.2uF / 275volts and C8016 1uF / 275volts and of course check the main fuse. If the red LED on the power board is on then change those caps above....should power right up...

    Hi,

Ok from reading your post I thought you were familiar with electronic circuits and because of which had your own test equipment. This repair requires some test equipment and some solder basic skills In order to test capacitors and fuses you need the following instruments:

    ESR meter

    Digital volt meter

    Soldering Iron

    Solder wick

    thin gauge solder

To check the fuse you need a digital volt meter (or Ohm meter) with continuity which you can get from radioshack. To test the capacitors you need an ESR meter which you can get from mouser.com and to remove and replace capacitors you need solder, soldering iron and solder wick.

Let me know if you want to continue with this on your own or if you would like to send the power board too me and I will repair it professionally. The next step would be to have your local shop do the repair for you and it shouldn't cost more than $100-$150 bucks if its just those caps and a few diodes and resistors. Plasma TV's are cheap to service because their not as popular as they used to be so parts and repair are at a bargain right now.

Be sure never to plug the TV directly into the wall outlet, instead use a surge suppressor to fully protect the TV's power supply. Especially with Akai as their known through out the repair industry for installing low grade parts on the boards.

I have A three year old AKAI 42 inch plasma tv---PDP4273M1---Mostly used as PC monitor. It was working just fine when I turned it off. When turned back on the next day, the on indicator light came on and...

Check to see what input setting the tv is on. It could still be looking for a signal from the pc input connection and no pc is hooked up thus getting no signal. Have the device you are trying to display on the tv connected and turned on and cycle through the inputs on the tv until you get a signal.

AKAI PDP5006H Plasma tv

1) Is the TV plugged directly into an outlet or is it plugged into another device, such as a cable box or audio receiver? If it is, try plugging directly into a wall outlet. Sometimes, devices like cable boxes don't provide enough current to power on more powerful newer TVs (like Plasma, LCD, etc) .

2) Check the manual to see if the flashing LED is a code for something you need to troubleshoot. The number and color of flashes may correspond to a problem that may or may not be easily fixed.

Hope that helps. Let me know how you make out.

When i turn it on their is nothing just the light on the frount of the tv flashing red and it looks like yellow

The flashing red light is an error code to diagnose what is wrong with it. Turn off the TV and then turn it back on and count the series of flashes, make a note of it, and re-post with that number along with the rest of your TVs information again. It is the beginning of the repair process.
I hope this helps and good luck!

You could smash the TV and find that it will work better or call a local repairman. I know the exact problem with this TV, but only a technician should even open a TV. The guy I got the TV from totally butchered the inside of his Akai in a failed attempt to fix his TV himself. Instead, he created a fire hazard and is lucky he did not burn his house down.

Akai model pdp4249g

Hello drifter,The design of the tv enables the auto search to detect any input signal you have selected. It could be TV (off air, video signals etc) so just switch on whatever inputs to the akai plasma befote you switch the Akai plasma on and let it do the work for you. just relax and watch the tv. recap 1. switch on the input eg video deck, DVD, VCD, or satellite dish. 2. switch on your AKAI PLASMA and 3. wait for the akai to search for your input signals. TRy this simple procedure and if it doesnt work just post back the message. The DON
