I have a Samsung LNT-4061F hdtv and a Sony RDR GX330 DVR. Comcast provided a Motorola DCH 3200 box to get the hd signal.
Maybe I need to upgrade the DVR, but I can't get a signal to the TV going through the DVR. It only works when it goes directly from the hd cable box to the TV. This means that to record a DVD, we have to connect the cable directly to the DVR bypassing the cable box, and we can't watch another channel on TV while recording.
Is this because the DVR is not appropriate for HD?
Also, I a an S-video cord that I'm not using, also HDMI that I'm not using because it doesn't seem to work. I'm using the RGB cords to connect the cable box directly to the TV bypassing the DVR. This works fine for watching TV but obviously not for recording.
Help!
When I hooked up my HD cable box using an HDMI cable, I had to go into the cable screen menus and select HDMI output. You may have to do something similar when using an S-video cable. Your DVD recorder doesn't seem to have an HDMI input, so you'll have to use the S-video or (worst case) composite video (red, white, yellow cords). Your cable box may also be scrambling the signal so that you can't record. That may be why you can record by bypassing the cable box.
