Parental control I just bought a used PS2 and the parental control was set, now I cant play any dvds. Is there any way around it or a master code available??

The default code is usually 0000,1111,or 1234.

make sure your console has the ability to read region 1 discs in the first place.
REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.
The end result is that DVDs encoded for regions other than Region 1 cannot be played on a region 1 DVD player, also, players marketed for other regions cannot play region 1-stamped DVDs.

If you forgot the parental control code and you need to unlock that, though, then try this:
1.Bring up a screen where the unit asks you to enter in the parental code. You can either insert a restricted disc, or enter the DVD setup menu and go to "parental control" under
custom setup.

2.When the screen asks for the code, press the SELECT button, then enter in the code "7444".

3.The level adjustment under Parental Control dictates the strictness of the player. The lower the value, the more strict it will be. Either increase the value to lower the restriction, or disable the lock entirely by setting it to "off".

4.Once you have made your adjustments, be sure that the DVD tray is empty, and press the RESET button on the front of the Playstation 2. It is imperative the tray is clear of any DVD or game for the unit to save your settings.

I'm not sure if you have tried this but try leaving the PS2 unplugged from any power source (no power cables attached) for approx. 72 hours. See if it clears it.

it might be your ps2 console has locked in in certain type of regions... like other DVD players has region that ask for code.. like Asia has different region, USA has different as well & Europe as well.. if you buy the DVD in different region it might not play...

To reset the Parental Codes:
When the screen pops up where you type in the parental codes, press Select then type in 7444. Then you will have to put in a new code then re enter it. it will work for all codes.

Ok first try 0 1 2 3 because that is the preset code for the ps2 or if that dont work insert any dvd movie, go to setup and access the parental control settings(press select) When asked for your code enter "7444"; It will prompt you again to type in your password. Type "0000" and then scroll down to the movie rating options and choose "off". Hope it helps you out!

This is the only way to turn "off" parental control lock on the custom setup screen.

1) turn off ps2 with no dvd in drive.
2) turn on ps2 and insert dvd in drive.
3) when it asks about parental password, choose 'yes'.
4) when prompted for password, press 'select'.
5) the prompt will change and say 'delete password'. enter '7444'.
6) enter a new password (0000 works).
7) registration complete, dvd will start playing.
8) once the movie starts, press 'select'.
9) click the 'stop' icon.
10) click the 'stop' icon again (the icon must be gray even when you have it highlighted).
11) navigate to 'custom setup' ('select', setup icon, custom setup icon)
12) move to parental control option, press right directional button, enter password (0000).
13) move down to 'level'.
14) move up to desired level (off is at the top).
15) click 'x'.
16) go back to 'select' menu options, and press 'play'.
17) while movie is playing, eject disk and remove dvd.
18) turn ps2 off using switch on the back, keep off for five seconds.
19) turn on ps2, put dvd back in.
20) happy dance. ;)

Put in the DVD, allow it to load up. Press the Select button on the controller. This will pop up a small menu. Highlight "Setup" and press the X button. This will take you to the area for parental lockout. When you get the Enter passowrd scren going, Enter '7444', it will then prompt you to enter another password. normally people use '0000' Now you can scroll down the movie rating list and select "OFF" so you dont have this problem anymore. www.playstationclinic.com
