My 12 year old fridge freezer does not seem to be cutting in and out. The top fridge seems warm but the freezer still has ice (could just be taking a time to defrost). I turned it off and on again and the motor started but now seems not to be cutting in and out again.
Any ideas please do they both work off the one motor?

its a manual defrost freezer, it is normal to ice up, if it is unusually more than you have noticed over the past 40 years, see if the door liner is cracked around the screws under the gasket, if so put some washers there to reseal the door liner
After you taken the back panel off and see a lot of ice forming on the coil before you use your hairdryer you should locate the timer and turn the center of the timer manually into defrost cycle. If you can see or hear the ice melting then your problem is the timer defective. Change the timer and that is all. But if it doesn't do anything then you will need a little bit more on electrical knowledge to deal with the rest on defrost temperature control and the element itself. Hope this help, God Bless.
check the blower fan inside evaporator,there is fuse on the back side of your refrigerator for cooling fan,check on this using multi tester if busted replace fuse.
hi is the fan motor going in the freezer. if so how long has it been plugged in if more than 24 hrs and the fan is going. it could be that because it sat for 10 years the lines that go inside could have rusted out. so if this is the case its scrap sorry. the appliance doc.
sounds like your freezer isn't maintaining a constant (cold) temp. A variation from cold to warm would cause your problems. Normal opening the door and looking for the ice cream over and over would cause a gradual increase in glacier activity in the freezer. I don't know of any quick easy fix-but wait, how about checking the door gasket? Get a piece of paper, close the door on it, move the paper all around the door, testing to see if you can pull it out easily (bad gasket), or does the paper not want to come out?(good gasket) If the gasket seems ok, it may be time to retire the global ice cream warming freezer countrycurt0
I would first check to see if the evaporator in the freezer is all iced up. If it is thats whay you do not have any cooloing. And If that is the case you have a defrost problem and it is not short on gas. If you see only a few coils on the evaporator frosted up then you do have a leak in the system and my be covered under the manufactures warrenty.
I looked at the BACK at the bottom underneath of my Sears Kenmore frost free upright freezer and what was causing the ice buildup was very simple. At the factory, the assembler looped the little hose too high and when the water went into the hose it could not get out due to being too high in one spot! An ice dam will form, blocking ALL water coming through and freezing up any more water coming down giving you a HUGE wad of ice that is scary!!! I just removed the screw holding the loop that holds the hose and put a bit of warm water down the little hole on the INSIDE (Behind the grate) to melt the remaining ice in the tube.You need to take out 4 screws and remove the grate to see this. I could not believe that this was the problem! I haven't had any ice build up since.Now don't tear your freezer apart before you try this trying to fix the compressor, thermostat etc. It may be the only thing wrong with it!
