SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

SOURCE: i just purchased a sandisk sdhc card 8gb memory

The problem is that you're using an incompatible memory card.

Your camera is designed to use SD memory cards up to a maximum 2GB capacity. Click on this link for the user manual and look at the specification on page 43 under the heading "storage".

You're trying to use an 8GB SDHC: not only is the capacity far too large for your camera to handle, but it's a later technical standard which your camera does not have the hardware for. SD and SDHC cards may look the same, but are very different "under the skin". SDHC compliant devices are backwards compatible with earlier SD cards, but SD devices like your camera cannot be updated to use SDHC cards.

Your only fix is to replace the SDHC card with an SD card of no greater than 2GB capacity.

How do i format the memory card on the kodak easy shareDX7590. I just bought and inserted a knew kodak 8 gm memory card and it says it need to be formated and i do not know how and have pushed all the...

To format a memory card, press the MENU button, use cursor-up/down to select Settings, press the OK button, use cursor-up/down to select "Format," and press OK.

The DX7590 works with MMC and SD cards. It does not work with SDHC cards. If you mean an 8GB card, then that's an SDHC card and will not work with the DX7590. The camera is limited to cards 2GB and smaller.

Hey..my problem is that everytime i turn on my camera it says card requires formating and when i press format it still says card can not be read! is there something wrong with my camera or my SD sandisk...

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. The second most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

The R725 works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

New sandisk 8 gb sd card reports memory error when inserted in camera. other cards work in camera. card is recognized by laptop. tried reformatting by Vista

There are no 8GB SD cards. Cards this size are SDHC (High Capacity). SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but many cameras won't work with the SDHC cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

I purchased a new memory card (sandisk sdhc ) it will not format?

Get a new camera :-)

Seriously, the Z740 is designed to work with SD cards, not SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the camera, they will not work. You need to buy SD cards 2GB and smaller.

Memory card needs formatted is displayed on the screen. Deleted the pictures and it still comes up. Tried to take more pictures and the memory card would not hold. Is there something wrong with the camera...

I assume you have an SD card. If it's bigger than 2GB then it's actually an SDHC card and will not work in the ZD710.

No, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. The card just needs to be formatted. In any mode press the Menu button. Press right-arrow to select the Setup tab (camera and wrench) then press OK. Press up/down-arrow to select "Format" then press OK.

Make sure you format the memory card. It's okay to format the internal memory, of course, but your current problem appears to be that the card needs to be formatted.

After inserting the new SanDisk, SDHC Card, 8GB the camera prompts "Memory card requires formatting", press continue; warms that formatting will delete everything on memory card; pres continue;...

First thing; check owner's manual and USA distributor, make absolutely sure that this camera is able to read/write to a 8GB card!
If so, put that card into your computer, directly into appropriate slot or through a "reader" and the USB port. If computer runs Windows, access My Computer, click on external memory device, and RIGHT CLICK. You will get a box which offers to format the card. You can rename the card at the same time. The computer's format routine is stronger that the one in the camera. If problem still happens, consult distributor. May be fixable with a cable from camera to USB port, you download new software from distributor. Follow their instructions EXACTLY.

Formatting troubles for a 8gb Sandisk Micro SDHC

Hi Tony,

Have your My Computer window open and re-insert the card into the reader. If it doesn't show immediately, then right click and choose refresh. It should show up then.
