Try this.
Plug your BB into the charger.
With it plugged in take the battery out.
Wait a minimum of two minutes then put the battery back in.
Let it charge for a minimum of an hour before touching any keys or the trackpad.
If it still won't charge consider replacing your battery.

The sim card may not be put in correctly, or it may need to be slid back or fourth a little bit. I had this same problem, but continued playing with my phone until I figured it out, now of course with a blackberry it took awhile to come back on, but no more irritating red light and black screen. Voila!

The real problem:
BlackBerries have issues with power management, especially if they get fully discharged batteries.
The real solution:
Unplug
Remove battery for at least 10 seconds
Re-Insert battery
Start er up and use your phone!

what has happened is some file some where is corrupt. It any easy fix really, just download your current os which you can find by holding down alt and then type eace and that will bring it up. download the os from here www.blackberry.com and then connect and reload your os
