My onkyno receiver shutss at about 42 decibels I just added 2 speakers to a 7.1 system
Onkyo revievers of that era got real hot. There needs to be several inches of clearence above the unit. Check the manual for clearences. The shutting down is because of too much heat. They will also shut down if there isn't enough load ie: too low ohms. You need atleast six ohms per channel for most home equipment. Tring to split out the amp to multiple speaker pairs will require an impedence matching selector.
My SR605 gets extremely hot. This is especially true when both amplifiers are running together supporting 2 separate channels. I added a 2 way speaker selector from Russound that supports 2 sets of 8 ohm speakers on Zone 2 and the receiver shuts down at about 74 dcbs and gets very hot. Checked the jumpers on the selector and they are set at 8ohms.
Have returned the Russound selector to them and had it checked out. Appears to be fine. Even when Zone 2 is not in use the receiver gets extremely hot. It is in a wood cabinet wih glass doors but even with the door open the temperture is very hot. As the volume is raise the heat increases and the receive trips off.
Very unusual in my opinion. Is this normel for the receiver to heat up as the volume is increased.

I've got the same issue as Ozzy right now, but I dont see any consistency in when it shuts off as far as the decibel level. It seems to be anywhere from 50-70db. My sub isn't hooked up yet (forgot the cables) so not sure if that may be part of the issue. I have not done the Audyssey set up either as the room is empty (no carpet or furniture) until Tuesday 7/1 and in reading the manual I got the impression the room should be in the condition it will be used in before doing that.
