This is an easy fix if you are somewhat handy.... The belt for the door/tray is slipping. If you remove the enclosure and face plate, you will see two motors below the disc drive. Press eject while observing the pulley to the left. You should see the problem with the motor shaft spinning and the belt slipping. Replacing the belt is possible without any further dissassembly. Simply bend some light wire into an L shape and you should be able to hook both pulleys and lace the new belt on. As far as obtaining a new belt I decided to do the simple thing and use a slightly smaller rubber band. The repair has held now for almost three months and the player is used everyday. Good luck.
I've got the same problem. I don't know of a real fix, but I do know how to get a CD out that seems to be stuck. Push the eject button for the CD, and when you hear it trying to eject the CD (very quiet humming sound kinda like when a CD is spinning up), push on the door when the CD tray would normally open. When this 1st happened with my player, it didn't take much force to get it to open, but now I have to really push to get it to open. I don't know how much longer I'm going to rely on this trick before trying to get someone to actually repare the thing.
Check for extra CDs in the tray. My tray was jammed shut. I could here the motor running, but the tray wouldn't budge. I took off the enclosure and faceplate. After a little rooting around I realized my beautiful 6 year old daughter had 4 CDs jammed in the tray. By sliding the trays in and out I was able to pull out the CDs. After that, it worked fine.
Had the same issue with tray not opening, ordered two rubber belts from the website another user mentioned and after replacing them everything worked like charm.
It took me probably over fifty tries to get the bigger belt over the bigger pulley as it was obstructed by one of the trays.
Got it going finally and now listening to the CD player.
Thank you all for the info please ask if you need details.
I discovered the same solution mentioned above, to get the CD to eject: Push the eject button for the CD, and when you hear it trying to eject the CD (a very quiet humming motor sound, kinda like when a CD is spinning up), push on the front of the door when the CD tray would normally open. I've been using this approach for over a year, and it's still working fine. For me, I'm just living with the issue, since it's easy enough to eject the CD when I want to. I love my compact Onkyo stereo CD system, so finding this easy workaround has made me a happy camper.

Same problem. Only disc 3 actually has a cd in it. Will play cd but won't allow me to remove. All drawers are stuck.
will play cds inside but will not open to allow us to change discs
cd cartridge won't open. onkyo c707chx
I have same problem too. I actually tried taking my changer apart thinking I can find where it's getting stuck or spray it with WD40. Couldn't get the draw open after dis assembling it. Now I'm trying to find a second hand one or another CD changer to replace it.

My door stopped opening as well. I found that disk one tray was stuck on the side and it finally snapped. Now I need it fixed...any help?
Thank you for your explanation of the repair and what to look for. I will grab some rubber bands and see if I can't fix it. My wife loves the system and plays it daily at her office. She has had this system over 5 years and I do not think I should just buy something comparable. I don't know if there is anything comparable.
I had this exact problem, and eventually pushing on the center, top front edge of the CD door stopped getting the CDs to eject. So, I had to repair the unit properly myself. I can absolutely confirm that if you replace the two belts, the CD changer will operate normally again and eject all CDs properly. I found the replacement belts on Ebay with these search words "Onkyo C-707CHX CD Belt Kit (2 belts)". I also found them on Amazon but they were more expensive. I'd advise you to get the actual belts since I don't think the rubber bands approach will last a long time, and you might as well only open the unit once, and do the repair right the first time. I found that I needed to bend two medium size paper clips as my tools for unhooking the old and hooking in the new belts. Caution: Remember, do not have the unit's cover off with the power plugged in, the CD player laser can make you blind, and my understanding is the laser is invisible.
