There is a waste filter in the bottom under the lower spray arm that needs to be cleaned periodically. If you are not cleaning it, it may be redepositing food particles on your dishes.
remove and clean the filter, and see if that helps.

SOURCE: fine grit on dishes

Depending on the machine you have it will have a filtering system to filter out food waste as it washes. This stops the food from being circulated by the wash process as water is cycled through the pump, internal plumbing, and washer arms. Your unit is failing to filter the water.
On the base of your unit in the centre on the floor will be a drain. Some have a visible filter and others have "soft food disposal" system. They are meant to be opened and cleaned from time to time and yours sounds like it is time.
Visible filters will lift out. Some you turn or there will be a catch holding it in place. Others will have obvious screws holding the filer. Open yours and take a look for food waste or debris clogging the drain and filter. Clear out anything you see there.
The washer arms also clog over time. You can remove them also and clear away anything from inside. The holes in the arms can be cleaned with a bamboo skewer or piece of wire. This often makes on old tired machine perform like new again.
While you are in there, check under the float valve. It looks like an upside down tea cup on the floor of the machine usually near the front. Make sure nothing is stuck under it and that it lifts up and down freely.
Hope this helps you. Please rate this answer if it has helped you.

Top dish rack dishes don't get clean model 8575637

Most dishwashers have a rotating spray bar underneath the upper rack. Over time bits of food can clog up the holes and then dishes won't get clean in the upper rack. Check to make sure all the holes in the spray bar are clear and that it is rotating freely.

Whirlpool du1055xtsq 3 not cleaning top rack of

In my experience, you probably have a clog in the spray arm/arms for the top rack. Take the arm(s) out and see if the holes in them are clogged. Rice, plastic wrappers, and glass from dishes that broke in there are the most common culprits I've seen.

Dishwasher not cleaning dishes

I had the same problem and fixed it by disassembling the lower spray arm and return filter, and cleaning all the junk out.
Most dishwashers have 'risers' that bring the water up to the top sprayer or arm located under the top rack. If the recirculating pump is plugged even a little there won't be enough volume or pressure to get the water up there.
Test this by putting a dry muffin pan in the top rack, flat, and running the dishwasher for a bit. If there is no water on the top (or the bottom) either the top sprayer or the sprayer arm underneath the top rack is not getting enough volume.
To fix this you need to clean out the screen and filter, where the water returns to be recirculated. If you don't have any confidence to remove the parts and clean it out yourself, get an appliance repair person to do the job.

I have a kenmore dishwasher and the dishes, especially on the top rack have debris stuck to them after it has run. What should I try?

Remove top spray arm and flush through the holes with running water. Then re-attatch.

It's usually bits of food debris that block the holes.

Whirlpool dishwasher. dishes on top rack are not getting clean

Check the center sprayer is not clogged. The two arms should have clear holes and some of the sprayers have a center post that raises to clean the top rack. Make sure the center post lifts by hand and is not stuck with food or gunk.

Food is being shot into the top rack and getting stuck inside the glasses. It is a brand new dishwasher-had it for a week. We have tried different settings on the dishwasher and different detergents

It sounds like you have a great deal of water pressure which a plumber may be able to address.
Otherwise, This may sound simplistic but it may be easier to hand rinse the dishes that have a lot of food still on them before they are placed into the dishwasher.
Good luck. :)

Maytag dishwasher quiet series 400. Dishes have hard stuck on grit and food particles after rinsed and dried.

Very common problem is soap build up in these machines. Try putting it into a wash cycle with no dishes, and no soap. Let it wash for about 5 minutes, and then open the door. If you see alot of soap suds, then soap build up is the problem. Try doing a couple loads with no soap, and no dishes, and throw a cup of vinegar into the machine halfway through the wash. Repeat as necessary. This should solve your problem.
