Dell d620 will not go into charge mode

Ever since i start using another battery two months ago (also a dell battery) I've had charging problems. Now neither battery charges anymore -- the little green battery icon will not light up. Runs fine on AC. No red X over battery when I look at it under power options and either battery will continue to run down without AC power -- one is now 40% and the other 70%. I've flashed the latest bios update several times. How can I get that little green battery light to come on and charge again???

  • roryupnorth Jun 22, 2008

The batteries are ok. This problem has been intermittent and when the laptop will go into charge mode (the little green battery icon lights up) then the batteries will charge and be good for several hours. But it's now been more than one week since the battery charging icon has lit up. For some reason it will not go into charge mode. Help -- someone -- please!

This is usually caused by a bad battery. Sounds like both batteries are not working properly. They may still hold some charge, but they are wearing out. After all, they are batteries, and bateries wear out. Keep in mind that some batteries are better than others, even though they may be the same brand, some will hold a charge longer, and some wear out faster. I'm on my second new battery in a year and a half on my Dell, the first held a great charge but wore out after approx 8 months, the one I'm using now still charges fine but only last about an hour and 15 mins.

Battery on pc charging slow

Click on the battery icon on the bottom right of your screen and make sure your computer is in Battery Saver mode. This should help it charge faster. In addition, closing any open programs or rebooting should help close any tasks that got stuck open and are draining CPU power.

Two possible causes for flashing Amber battery light.
    1) Your battery won't charge and needs to be replaced.
    2) Your charging circuit for the battery is defective and then your motherboard of laptop will need to be replaced.

the batteries eventually wear out and quit taking a charge. You can run the system without a battery with no ill effects. replacements are about $100 for a new battery

My D620 starts to boot up then shuts down suddenly

could it be that your battery is no longer holding a charge?
try powering it up with the power pack attached (and ensure the light on the power pack is indeed lit) - it also could be that the laptop is not being charged by the power pack.

the problem is the BIOS of the Dell system is looking for an ID signal from the AC adapter so it knows what adapter is connected. If the BIOS cannot ID the power supply, then battery charger is disabled.

You will need to get a Dell AC adapter.

Battery is not charging properly ....?

Have you checked the bios battery status and bios version? first check if battery has charge if yes then update the bios. also try to remove batt and use ac adapter alone and check if laptop has sufficient power. try connecting ac adapter to a diff wall socket. if laptop works fine with ac adapter alone then batt might has problem.

    BATTERY PROBLEMS?

    Hi

Latitude D620 battery module has a battery charge tester. First remove the battery or turn the laptop over and press the battery icon and the note the battery LED indication.

If there is no LEDs lite, shut down the laptop, connected the power Adaptor, install the battery and check if the battery charge LED lites up.

If it doesn't double check the power Adaptor. Latitude D620 is rated to use a 90W Adaptor. There is a 60W Adaptor (looks very similar to) but this is for other Latitudes and AMD Vostro systems.

    If the Adaptor has the correct rating, then check below for more info;

    1) [Very Likely] The battery may be faulty or end-of-life and needs replacing. Check the battery connector on the Latitude and battery itself for any broken or bent pins or bits.

    2) [Possible] You have the wrong power Adaptor or the Adaptor is faulty. This however would not explain why the battery is undetected.

Start up the Latitude into System BIOS (F2). Under System > Battery information check the battery and AC Adaptor status

If the Latitude D620 has warranty you may open a warranty claim with Dell Support.
