Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.

If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...

Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Freezer side not cold enough, similar temperature as Refrigerator side

It could be many things. My first guess would be the defrost. The coil that gets cold in your freezer builds ice on it and the only way to get the ice off is to run a heater near the coil long enough for the ice to melt. All freezers have something built in to defrost and domestic are typically just an electric heater on a timer. When your freezer stops working again, you may want to pull open the panel of your freezer and see if your coil (a heat exchanger that probably looks a lot like your car radiator) is covered in ice. If it is, it could be the timer or the actual heater that is bad.
tip

Simple thing you can do if the ref is not getting cold enough.

1. Defrost the freezer if you see ice on the inside wall.
This is a very common problem. Before you call a technician do this.
Defrost the freezer completely, and when you put the items back, make sure that the vent are not being blocked. The fan needs to circulate the air inside the freezer to keep it from having frost. Ice build up causes circulation problem which causes the ref and even the freezer to not get cold enough. Since the thermostat senses that it is not getting cold enough the refrigerator runs constantly and producing even more frost. Then the owner turns the refrigerator to coldest setting which actually do not help, or maybe make the problem even worse, all the while running up the electric bill as well. So there you go.

Freezer fan stays on constantly. temps ok in both sides. will this cost much more electricity and should i really worry about it.

If the freezer fan is running constantly, and things aren't too cold in either section, it means the frig thinks its not cold enough to shut off, so it runs trying to get to the proper temp. you have control set at. Check for any frost buildup on freezers back panel inside freezer. If there is you have a defrost problem.

Temperatures not staying cold, then getting too cold. First everything in freezer thawed out. Then, fridge wasn't cold enough. We moved everything to freezer just to keep colder (not to freeze). Then, days...

assuming fan now working. clean out vents/ drain holes (make sure no ice in bottom of freezer or in fridge unit)i.e. a total defrost.then check door seals all okay(no air leaks) if unit was trying to defrost itself and you reset to colder it will need to reset itself.....

IMy freezer is not getting cold enough anymore

We need to check to see if your freezer is defrosting properly. I am pretty sure your refrigerator has a defrost timer located inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the rear panel inside the freezer to have a good look at the evaporator. If frozen over defrost with a hair dryer. Then let me know so we can test the defrost heater and thermostat. Your model shows a defrost timer and that is the most likely reason if you find the freezer evaporator coils frozen over. See if you can locate the timer first and turn the timer slowly clockwise until compressor stops. Wait 25 minutes and the timer should turn the compressor back on. If it does not the the timer will need replaced. Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

MY refrigerator is running but is not getting cold.

defrost it. sounds like ice blockage. Take out freezer drawers unscrew inner back panel. In the t/l/h side there is a hole left of the fan which blows cold air that goes into fridge (side of light unit).
Use a hairdryer to dislodge/defrost this pipe. The polystyrene backing can also be moved to reveal the freezer pipes.Defrost this also. This hopefully should solve problem, if not a freezer or fridge thermistor may have to be replaced which is the coloured cable on the r/h/s of inner freezer which cost approx £20 each

Freezer/refrigerator compressor running constantly

th ebi-metal is a thermostat which shuts the defrost heater on/off, but doesnt actually put the unit into defrost. if it were bad the defrost heater would never go on resulting in massive build up of ice on back wall of freezer, and noticable refrigeration sect. cooling.. dont know how you know the compressor never shuts down, but if that the case perhaps you have a sealed system/ freon issue. try removing the back panel of freezer section and check the evaporator coil. you shuld have an even frost pattern over the entire evap coil. if theres just frost over the top 1or 2 coils, and the rest of coil is shiny aluminum , thats an indication of a sealed system issue.( 5 year part warr by manufacture) def not a do it yourself issue...but that would,, depending on extent of restriction/loss of freon,, cause freezer to freeze and defrost eratically, and the compressor would be running constantly trying to achieve a good stable temp
