    I found a map that I can use on my garmin gps but I don't know how to get it onto my garmin gps

    Purchased battery from Power99.Installed and turned on saying installed maps. I turned it off to charge in car with standard garmin kit for 3 hrs. Won't turn on.

I downloaded "a free map update" onto my NUVI 760 GPS and ever since then I can't type a city. Say I want to type Buffalo. I put in the B and it immediately shows 2 cities like Binghamton and Brighton. That happens with every city I try to type.

I talked to the people at Garmin and they said when I downloaded the update I should have picked the right area maps to download. I tired again and there was no place to pick the maps I wanted.
What should I do?

The simple answer is : no it does not need and SD card to work

Go to tools-settings-language-voice and make sure it is set to "American English-Jack (TTS) or to American English-Jill (TTS)

You didn't say how long you've had your device, but if you haven't registered your device at Garmin.com yet, go do that and they will then offer you a free upgrade.

Other than that, I don't think you'll find anything free. The next best thing is to buy the "nüMaps Lifetime™". I felt this was the best deal they have.

Asmany as there are FREE dinners Updates are not free, unless you paid full price for it when you bought it. Free upgrades are a deceptive myth. If you get a free uograde its usually minor and was included in the price of the pack.

I bouth in the end 2008 Garmin Nuvi 760 with usa maps. I live in Argentina and travel frecuently to ST = CT. For mistake erase the usa maps and in few day i ll travelingo to U.S. There are same webside...
The garmin maps are copy protected and are registered to your device.
You may be able to pick one on a memory card off ebay cheaply especially if you do not want the very latest version.

I cannot update the maps in my garmin nuvi 760. It extracts and then fails saying that it cannot connect to the garmin server or something like that.
You need to be connected to the internet to install the maps so the program can connect to the garmin website. If you're not connected that's the problem. If you were connected and still couldn't install the map try browsing to www.garmin.com and see if it's working. The website can be impossible to navigate sometimes. Maybe it's because they're working on the site or maybe it can't handle the amount of traffic. When you can navigate easily try installing the map again.

Is it possible to get inland waterway maps (IRELAND)to suit nuvi
GPS City (http://www.gpscity.ca ) sells compatible Inland lake maps. Please note Garmin does not recommend them for that unit but I am sitting at my desk with one in my Nuvi 760 and it is working fine. You will need to turn off the street maps first to see the inland lake maps. I tested it with a Garmin Pre-programmed card for Alberta Canada.

No. If you want usefully updated maps, then you have to pay for them. Garmin do offer a "lifetime" maps subscription, but it's only for the lifetime of your product: given that most Garmin SatNav units don't last long enough to benefit from more than a couple of years worth of updates it's usually cheaper to buy the single update option, although the lifetime subscription gives you four updates per year and one-off is just a single annual update.

If your unit also needs updated traffic and camera alerts then it can be cheaper to buy a new satnav.

Unocking Garmin SD maps
it is in the box it came with, on the back of the instruction book.
If you did not buy it 'new in the box', you will have to refer to the 'activation' code sent to you email.
The Garmin Nuvi 760 does not require SD card maps if you are using it in the US, btw...
