Ur motor bushing is already oversize and needs to be replace! The cause of that horrible sound came from the rotor touching the magnetic housing and its about to freeze itself up! There are 2 bushing the front and the rear, don't use WD40 it will just lubricate it for a moment and adds up the after a couple of hours(it will dry up fast).

Use two stroke engine oil, lubricate the front and the rear!
That will keep it silent!

My hood fan is making a loud noise, due to it has gotten moisture after a snow storm. Can i spray WD-40 onto fan to quiet the noise?

Usually the fan begins to make noise when the bearings in the fan motor become clogged with dirt or just wear out. You must get access directly to the fan housing and spray the bearings directly. This may consist of taking off a couple panels.

Carrier Air V unit with loud noise

If it sounds like a scraping noise it could be the motor bracket ah broken and the squirrel cage (fan assembly) is hitting the fan housing, if it is more of a squeal than it very well could be a bearing. Very hard to guess without seeing or hearing it.

Loud noise from the fan

The speed of the fan is a direct result of the voltage that is supplied to it normally 12V DC one of the simplest ways to lower the rpm and hence the noise is to use an in-line resistor to lower this to about 9V DC which will reduce you number of rpm by 1/4

9 /12 = 0.75 (3000 x 0.75 = 2250rpm)

So if you rpm is 3000rpm this will reduce the rpm to about 2250rpm , this will still be sufficient to cool the processor you will only notice about 1 degree Celcuis increase but a marked noise reduction on you PC.

available from Maplins HERE for the 7V version I can't find the 9V online sorry

One other option is to download SpeedFan from Almico which offers some support for newer mobo and the speed can be reduced by a percentage if you board is on their list.

Hope this helps.

Fan blade does not immediately spin when turned on; loud

The motor bearings need machine (like sewing machine oil).
Try a quick spray of WD40 or Liquid Wrench, but use machine oil, soon.
Look for an "oil hole" on top of the motor; there may be two of them.

Loud fan

Hello

I have a gforce 9600gt oc addition and that fan is loud beyound your wildest expectation, but although there is lots of utillities you can install to reduce fan speed thus reducing the noise, but can cause permanent harm to your system(it will most probably overheat). You can try blowing all the dust of the fan using compressed air to reduce the rolling resistance of the fan. You can find a fan speed utillity with the name of LG X110 fan utility from google, developed by msi, but i wount recomend it. Hope this can help you, please rate this

Fan motor has loud screech.

Check for oil ports on motor. Usually red or yelloe plug in caps. No more than 20 drops of oil. I usually use sewing machine oil.
